Internationally acclaimed creatives Antoine Marc and Valencia James led a 3-day intensive where local creatives explored how artificial intelligence, motion capture, computer vision, and other emerging technologies can shape the future of performance.
From experimenting with movement and technology to creating short collaborative works, participants got a firsthand look at what happens when innovation meets artistry.
This workshop was one of the pre-events leading up to CARIFESTA XV, sparking exciting conversations about where dance and technology can go next.

In a world of ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence (AI) programs, what is the role of AI in the performing arts and dance? With these and other emerging technologies becoming more accessible, how might Bajan and Caribbean creatives integrate them in their practices? In this 3-day workshop intensive, we will explore how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (machine learning), computer vision and motion capture can be applied to live dance performance, the creation process as well as post production techniques to enhance live performances. The workshop will pay special focus on cross-disciplinary collaboration and welcomes all creatives interested in the intersection of movement arts, performance, technology, and film. Participants will be guided to experiment and work together to create their own short performances that they can develop further.
Please bring your laptops with webcams if you have them.

đ Introducing the Stand of the Sun creative team đ
At Melting Metropolis we are passionate about sharing our research with the public, and doing so in ways that are creative, thought-provoking and immersive. We have been working with research artist Bryony Ella over the past two years as she has been considering with us how to express and articulate embodied experiences of urban heat islands in London, Paris, New York and Port of Spain. Her focus has been on exploring our relationship to the sun, past and present. Earlier this year, Bryony invited a wider team of creatives to deepen this research; our Stand of the Sun creatives. We are so looking forward to experiencing what has emerged from this interdisciplinary collaboration.
Join us next week at @orleanshousegallery for the first ever performance of Stand of the Sun: A summer ritual for the melting metropolis. This FREE event will feature live music composed by Bumi Thomas, dancers choreographed by Antoine Marc and lighting designed by Rachel Sampley, all of which responds to and will take place in and around Bryonyâs âMy Body is a Sundialâ sculpture. Together, they are bringing environmental history into contact with celestial wonder, and offering an alternative ritual for these uncanny times. A time when two bodies - humanityâs and that of our closest star - are being held too close within geometries of concrete and glass. It promises to be a truly inspiring and nourishing evening. The event is free but booking is essential; follow the link in our bio.
