The Apple Ornament For Antje Majewski, the apple is both an art object and a way to address the threat to biodiversity. Together with the New Patrons of Wietstock, she has designed an apple ornament that will be incorporated into the paths of the planned community garden.   Art Living Lab to Repair the Land is co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, coordinated by Concomitentes (Spain) and developed together with Association for Interdisciplinary & Intercultural Research (Croatia), Kunstverein Rügen e.V. First meeting with the artist The Wietstock Working Group invited Antje Majweski, an artist living in Berlin and Himmelpfort/Brandenburg, to fulfil its commission. She comes from a background in painting and thinks in images but has also frequently designed community processes in her work and integrated nature into them.   Antje Majewski’s (born 1968, Marl, Germany) paintings, video works, and installations address how humans interact with cultural objects, plants, and ecosystems. With a particular interest in cultural and geobotanical migration, she explores oral history and transformation processes as well as questions of ownership and self-efficacy. An important part of Majewski’s work is her collaboration with other artists, ecological and civic groups, and scientists. Busan is now a coastal city. But was it the same 100 million or even 500 million years ago? Certainly not. Over millions of years, Earth’s surface—its lands, oceans, and topography—has constantly shifted, disappeared, and reformed. While the past and present landscapes are not identical, one thing connects them: the sea. We are people who walk along the shore, and the fossils presented here are remains of creatures that once swam in the ancient seas. In the oceans, where life on Earth is believed to have first begun, many unique creatures lived and went extinct in the ancient past. What did those ancient, extinct creatures—ones no one has ever seen—look like? What colors covered their skin? Fossils stamped into stone give us only a faint glimpse of their appearance, like black-and-white photographs. Scientists try to reconstruct these organisms in three dimensions using two-dimensional traces. In this process, we imagine their original forms by combining incomplete puzzle pieces. Over long periods of time, organisms have been adapting to environmental changes through transforming their forms. What kinds of creatures will live on the Earth of the future? Zu sehen in der Ausstellung 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘶𝘦𝘳𝘯 im Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) bis 14. September. / On view at the exhibition 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘗𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 at Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) until September 14. 🌱 DE | Das Wort „Barrikade“ leitet sich vom französischen barrique ab – ein mit Sand und Erde gefülltes Weinfass, mit dem man Straßen blockiert. Das Künstlerduo errichtet eine solche Barrikade im Museum. Olivier Guesselé-Garai schuf eine Installation aus Eichenfässern, Dreschflegeln, Sicheln, Schaufeln, Zugmaschinen, elektronischen Bauteilen, Melkschemeln, Stiefeln, Kübeln und Rädern aus den letzten zwei Jahrhunderten. Diese rufen Szenen historischen und gegenwärtigen Widerstands in ländlichen Kontexten wach: Volksaufstände, soziale Konflikte, Trotz der Leibeigenen, Arbeiter:innenrevolten und Streiks – der fortwährende Kampf für soziale Gerechtigkeit und Gemeinschaftsgüter. Antje Majewskis Leinwände sind mit Erdpigmenten bemalt: Ocker, Grünerde und Rötel, gebunden mit Hasenleim und Leinöl – traditionelle Materialien seit der Antike. Die Kompositionen folgen der zugleich restriktiven und befreienden Struktur des Rasters. Inspiriert von der Parallele zwischen rechteckiger Leinwand und kultiviertem Land, schuf Majewski eine Installation, in der sich die gemalten Felder vom Boden erheben. Sie spiegeln die Spannung zwischen dem modernistischen Drang nach geometrischer Ordnung und dem Arbeiten im Einklang mit dem Land, zwischen Befreiung von feudalen und patriarchalen Systemen und der Suche nach nachhaltigen Alternativen. Im begleitenden Film 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘶𝘴 werden diese Themen durch Interviews mit protestierenden deutschen Landwirt:innen weitergedacht.

Space & Spacelessness Mit: Onur Abaci, Hank Yan Agassi, Juan Blanco, Avisa Hashemi, Paula König, Ana Kostova, Antje Majewski, Lasse Müller, Paula Oltmann, Boseo Park, Jana Michal und Vangjush Vellahu. Ab 28. Mai zeigt @antjemajewski , seit 2023 Professorin für Malerei am Institut FREIE KUNST der HBK Braunschweig, in der Hochschulgalerie Arbeiten verschiedener Künstler*innen unter dem Titel „Space and Spacelessness“. Die Ausstellung vereint Werke von Antje Majewski mit Arbeiten von aktuell Studierenden der HBK Braunschweig sowie Absolvent*innen der Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel und der Weißensee Kunsthochschule. Die eingeladenen Künstler*innen nähern sich den Orten und Nicht-Orten mit Malerei, Installation und Videoarbeiten. Antje Majewski ist Malerin, arbeitet aber auch mit anderen Medien, kollaborativ oder kuratorisch. Für diese Antrittsausstellung als Professorin an der HBK Braunschweig hat sie die Form einer Gruppenausstellung mit einigen der jungen Kunstler*innen gewahlt, deren Weg sie als Professorin eine Zeit lang begleiten durfte.
