Which of the many modern-day captivating spectacles is drawing us into a world of make-believe, distracting us from the mission that matters most? How can we find focus -- and purpose -- in a world of ambient fictions? Lesson #12: Make Curiosity Human Again! In a world of fast answers and calibrated outcomes, let's lean into a little more mystery. We know the power of a good question to unlock new levels of connection, consciousness, and community.  Simply because stepping into the unknown is the epitome of growth.  We believe that imagination shouldn’t be guard-railed by any algorithm. And we're here to show you why a little bit of mystery can go a long way.  The previous edition of Another Future Festival was yet another multi-day adventure underwritten by the trust of our participants.  We didn’t under-promise, but we definitely over-delivered; rewarding our guests with first class food, workshops, talks, music, people, places – and plenty of material gifts along the way.  Rather than over-saturate people’s expectations we encouraged people to be curious, to remember that true things always emerge, that the right questions get clearer answers.  Sound a little convoluted? Well, sometimes the bigger things in life can’t be squeezed into a pithy post on socials.  Sometimes you just have to come to Another Future to find out for yourself. @anotherfuturefestival will return. ...VERY SOON 📸 @davidmontesaldea

Lesson #11: We’re more than halfway into the 2020s, and it’s time to step up, not back. Yes to healing.  To calming our overloaded nervous systems.  To facing our traumas and the inherited violence of the world. Yes to seeing and accepting the Self.  But as the world’s ailing structures crumble before our eyes and our future is forced to recalibrate, we need to resist the urge to shrink or disassociate.  MORE THAN EVER, WE NEED TO GATHER CREATIVE, CONSCIOUS PEOPLE ON THE FRONT LINE. This doesn’t mean we all need to get there at the same time, or in the same way, but at some point, we must accept that more consciousness is the key to everything. We also need to stop framing the conversation about the future as a far-away abstract thing.  Instead, let’s bring the conversation back to the present.  Start by asking, 'what does the perfect day look like for me?'  This question might provide the seed that sprouts new hope and honesty into everything else.  In the existential struggle of our time, let’s use it as the foundation to step up; to meet our collective dreams and dramas right here - in the sincerity of now. -------------------------------------- Another Future Festival ...will return (soon) 📸 @davidmontesaldea

Lesson #10: Independence and Integrity are Intertwined. With everything co-opted by private equity and nefarious political agendas these days, for us, the tricky art of maintaining creative independence has turned into a non-negotiable necessity.  Another Future Festival is supported by our guests, local partners, and collaborations with visionary brands, but we maintain editorial and programming independence – and will continue to do so.  We don’t have an ‘agenda’ or a plan to sell our community to the highest bidder.  What we do have is a long-term vision to inspire talented people to actively build the future we all actually want – simply because that’s what we want too. Lesson 9: Pronoia forever! If you haven’t heard of pronoia yet, now is the time. Everyone knows paranoia; the belief that the world is conspiring against you. But this word is just another part of a cultural perception conditioned by fear as a mode of societal control. Pronoia, however, is the belief that the world is working in your favour. The serendipitous signage is usually there – you just need to start paying attention. As our multi-disciplinary think tank panellist @christopherconnors shared with us, everything we are looking for is right here, in the room with us. We must still always strive in a way that doesn't pull us too far up into any imagined stratospheres.  So, for now, let’s just re-ground with what and who we know to be true and work in synchronicity with that.  Pronoia forever! ------------------------------ Photos by @davidmontesaldea for @anotherfuturefestival

Lesson 8: Define the vision but allow space for the process to clarify the path. Every beautiful, delectable, carefully curated moment at Another Future is proof of what’s possible when you set a clearly defined idea into motion.  Over our 3-day programme we really created an alternate universe that nourished the possible into being.  And, just like the future visualisation sessions led by @JenniDawes showed us, the future can look any way you want it to – if you give it a chance.  That doesn’t mean we have all the answers or alternatives to the complications of our time. But let’s start by gravitating around what we want and need in the urgency of the present and move in that direction.  In an age of immediate (albeit dubious) answers proffered by AI, maybe we need to safeguard a little more time for the process, for discovery.  Life isn’t a clinical equation, it’s more of a colourful quest.  Not knowing can sometimes be the point.  Just remember, when you start along the way, the way appears. ---------------------- Photos by @davidmontesaldea   at @lascicadasartresidency for @anotherfuturefestival Special thanks to @leila_ara for set design and co-creative partners @loewe_perfumes for supporting the future visualisation sessions. 🌐
