How do you describe 7 months you spent on a new job, in a new country, in a few words? Impossible.
I was welcomed by people with so much creativity, technical knowledge, high work ethics and warmth, and it made it the easiest job.
Out of this world sets, the biggest blue screens I’ve ever seen, hundreds of actors transported straight out of 1873, goats, horses and carriages, summer nights paddling on the river and icy cold winter nights working, standing between my bears by the monitors nibbling on seven different kinds of mint. We sweated, swore, ate, sang, laughed and eventually I cried.
If I try to mention everyone I miss dearly I will not finish this post but you all know who you are. I am in awe of everyone and I left a bit of my heart in Prague, to be kept safe till I get to come back, hopefully soon 💛

Last winter I (@annisummerson ) did a comedy/detective show called Ludwig starring the lovely David Mitchell for the BBC. I don’t have many behind the scene videos in general (where do people find the time?) but here’s some that I had on my phone.

4) planning of the opening crane shot of episode 1 with the help of paper and iPhone in the production office. You hear the director Robbie McKillop explain the movements of the actors to our brilliant 1st AD @angbatten
5) the 75’ techno crane we managed to borrow from Mission Impossible for this one take continuous opening shot of episode one
6) the FIRST rehearsal not going to plan
7) a lighting effect prepped by best boy Tony West for another episode - a murder has taken place in a church
8) pretending to be happy when day has turned dark on a January day and we have to match the dayscenes we’ve just shot
9) Pip our third AD doing some brilliant hand acting with a ruler as a stand-in for Anna Maxwell-Martin.
10) tracking shot (with me under the cloth for reflections) operating the Sony Venice with Hawk V-Lite lenses
11) trying to get into my wetgear on a night shoot shortly after Christmas
As always, a shoot is nothing without your brilliant crew 💛
With midsummer, the longest day of the year just having passed, I started to reflect over the Scandinavian light- the summer evenings that never end and seamlessly flow into the morning like magic. Have had the luck to work in Norway over the years and it’s a great place to be, preferably over the summer months.
If someone offers you a job there- GO!

“One of the most exciting challenges was executing the opening sequence of the first episode. We had a rare chance to use a 75-foot Technocrane (Supertechno 75 Plus) available for a day from Mission Impossible, allowing us to capture one continuous shot. The introductory shot formed a carefully choreographed visual journey through a multi-storey office building just outside the City of London.”

Dope Girls is out on BBC. It’s rare to be in an environment where the collaboration is so open and playful between everyone involved. All of us led by the ever so inspiring and creative director @shannnnnny . Was a true joy to film the beautiful worlds created by @sherreephilips and stunning costumes by @sophiecanale.costumedesigner and H&MU design by @_mirna_curak_ . There’s too much to write and too many to thank, including my ace crew in Wales who I will work with again and again. And oh- the actors …. Loved every moment of it 💜
The amazing #DopeGirls has arrived on BBC One featuring the #Cinematography of Annika Summerson BSC (@annisummerson ) and Carlos Catalan BSC (@carloscatalan_ ).
Dope Girls follows a group of women who set up a nightclub in London in 1918. The show follows the birth of the modern nightclub industry as well as the new sense of empowerment felt by women as men left for war.
The series was created by Polly Stenham and Alex Warren and stars Julianne Nicholson and Eliza Scanlan. Make sure to check it out on BBC iPlayer now!.

Woke up to great news of Baby Reindeer winning a Golden Globe for Best Limited Series and Best supporting Actress for our wonderful Jess Gunning last night. That on top of 6 Emmys end of last year it has had a great run (and some controversy..)
As always it takes a village, a dedicated group of people who put in their love and hard work for a short and intense time. Shed some tears and shared some laughs and made some new, life long friends in the process 💙
I’m proud to not only have worked on a popular entertainment show but that it also started important conversations about men who experience sexual abuse and WE ARE SURVIVORS had an increase in calls when the show came out.
