Super honoured to make a bunch of props for Māori artist Lisa Reihana’s incredible work GROUNDLOOP which overlooks the central atrium of the Art Gallery of NSW’s Modern wing.
This was made 2 years ago for the opening.
This Sci Fi tale tells the story of connection built upon deep histories of encounter and exchange between the people of Aotearoa and Australia. The kangaroo skin cello was my fave to make.
Process for making a cast iron door for a medieval kitchen oven (which I also built) Making wood, buttons and a red plastic drawer handle look like cast iron.
Designed by the fabulous @analogue.dog

Over 20 years ago when I was a Mardi Gras workshop artist, Jade Kemety and I made this big Tom of Finland head for Jimmy Barnes when he performed at the party with a bunch of hot leather boys. The head was designed to snort up a big pile of cocaine at the end (a huge parachute pulled up through the nose) We didn’t have camera phones then so a lot of our work wasn’t documented very well (if at all) so it’s all a bit blurry.
Happy Mardi Gras my wonderful Queer family. ❤️ #tomoffinland #tomoffinlandfoundation #leatherman #leathermenofinstagram #sydneygayandlesbianmardigras
It was a privilege and an absolute joy to work on this project with our extraordinary MA Production Design student @reillyoloughlin who designed and built this incredible miniature of the Block in Redfern. It’s for an animation called Kingsland about the changes that have taken place in that area over the last 40 years. Directed and animated by the lovely @joshy.yass and beautifully lit by @petemoses . With fantastic support from Krista Jordan and @nataliebeak .
I am humbled by Reilly’s ambition, hard work and immense talent. This is my bliss. @aftrs #aftrs #minatures #minaturescale #artdepartment #scenicartist #filmmaking
Scrambled to finish making this offensive coloniser statue of ‘Hunter Whiteman’ out of recycled polystyrene, cardboard and papier-mâché for the fantastic @urbanmurries team. A series about blak teens transitioning into adulthood. The production was made under very tricky circumstances due to Covid but I’m so proud of these champions for getting it over the line.
Created and written by the extremely talented @kerrodmcreed and produced by the incredible @farazzled . First ep just released. Check it out!

Once upon a time the Red Rattler was just an empty concrete space bought by 5 wonderful Queers as a gift to our community. I put my hand up to help turn it into the fabulous space it is today. @busterkruger and I built this bar from an old recycled timber staircase, pressed ceiling metal and decking. It cost just under $1000 to make.
It was such a privilege to be part of such an amazing group of Queers working to make a sacred space for ourselves that couldn’t be taken away/sold/re-zoned. This place is our temple where we go to worship. ❤️#redrattlers #redrattlertheatre #queerspaces #queersofinstagram #queerspirituality #queertradies #queerspaces #queer #queerartists

Just finished a week teaching the Scenic and Prop making intensive workshop at @aftrs . My students learned how to make different materials, textures and surfaces and how those surfaces age over time. We talked about the power of visual story telling by understanding backstory and the passing of time. Each panel is part of a bigger imagined world. The panels were lit by our wonderful gaffer Kenny who continued the conversation about place and time.
I’m so proud of my students work. @artbyemmanuellerose@dizzie17@frank5ie@annika_rose_rigg #scenicart #scenicartist #scenicartistlife #visualstorytelling #scenicartcourse #aftrs #guildofscenicartists #oldschoolscenicart
Miniature of burnt Australian bush for the film Ernest. My brilliant student @analogue.dog and I turned the lush bush miniature we made into a blackened landscape. We pulled off all the green bits and scenic’d the landscape to look desolate and burnt. A black wash with a dusting of white chalk. This was the most wonderful model to make and the crew were fantastic.
Written and directed by the gorgeous and talented @butterwoman_ “Can you make it look more burnt?” @ben.bellette astounded us all with his incredible lighting and the beautiful characters were sculpted by the very clever @emikahiart
Awesome standbys were @sidonie_potato and @mollyhanrahan_
This was a magical collaboration and I felt blessed to be a part of it.❤️ #minatures #propmakers #scenicart #scenicartist #modelmaking
I had a great time building this miniature of the Australian bush with my fantastic Production Design student @analogue.dog who I am so proud of! We had JUST started working on it in the @AFTRS workshop when we went into lockdown. I quickly jigsawed it in half, kept one half at my home and dropped the other half plus materials at her house.
During lockdown we had lovely crafternoon mentoring sessions via zoom, where we worked on our pieces together. As soon as lockdown was over, I took my half to her place and we put them together. We spent the week blending and finessing the whole landscape.
Our fabulous students shot it last week and it looked amazing.
It’s for a gorgeous animation about a teddy bear who was abandoned in the bush and was saved by a wombat as a bushfire was approaching. It’s written and directed by the lovely @butterwoman_ and the Cine was the amazing @ben.bellette .Beautifully sculpted figures by @emikahiart Next week (sadly) we turn this into a blackened post bushfire landscape. #AFTRS #miniatures #scenicdesign #scenicartist #modelmaker #filmmaking #australianlandscapepainting
