It was a jam-packed day of storytelling, character creation and book-making for me and the students of The British International School of New York to celebrate World Book Day. From read-alouds with the youngest to a full fledged Zine Workshop with the 5th and 6th graders, I had a blast. Thank you for hosting me @bis_newyork !

Yesterday was a BIG DAY! I am so proud of @nycconcierge (aka @bigcitybirder ) for his decision to retire from Trader Joeās. In anticipation, obv. I crafted a few things (with a touch of copyright infringement) and organized the crew to sport TRADER JOELās stickers. What a lovely group of people, especially store manager, Hannah seen at the end of the video giving him a big hug. And they gave him the most specatcular send-off with a huge bouquet of flowers and ceremonial ringing of the bells at the registers!ššš But thatās not allāThanks to family and friends (and extra help from his sister @pjbrower š), he came home to a showering of love and well-wishes. Thank you to everyone who helped make his important milestone even more special! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
There a lot to be said for that free and breezy feeling an illustrator gets when they turn in a book. While I canāt share much now, hereās a little detail that encapsulates my mood as I wrap this up and move onto other projects.š
The Book Show @svanyc is open! Featuring the work of the Class of 2026 @svamfaillustration our reception is tonight, Monday, November 24th from 5 to 8pm. Come join us to celebrate and peruse this amazing array of self-authored/illustrated books by my last group of students in the MFA program since stepping down this spring. Special shoutouts go to everyone who helped with the installation, especially @riccardovecchio70@kimablondi@anaghbanerjee@artofbernardo and of course, the students of @svamfaillustration who put their hearts and souls into their work. On this day back in 2013, when WORLD RAT DAY was published by @candlewickpress , we were chilling with the sloths for National Sloth Day. Not unlike these racers, āSloth Dayā moves around from year to year. But November 19th will always be near and dear to my heart, especially on a rainy day like it is in NYC today. This is my one of my favorite images from the book, written by the great @j.patricklewis who was Childrenās Poet Laureate at the time. Whether youāre in the rat race or a slothās version today, I wish you a lovely day, taken at your own pace.
