I recently wrote a short blog titled “The Art of Being Mediocre and the Ripples It Leaves Behind” (Link in bio) It is one that means a great deal to me as it was inspired by two people I deeply admire and by the reminder that the stories we tell ourselves, as well as the opportunities we give one another, can create ripples far beyond what we ever imagine.
The blog also connects to a project very close to my heart: @iamjalayne ’s performance of @jjaxson_music ’s cello concerto “Anchored” as part of a co-commission project. The @allentownsymphony recently gave the East Coast debut under the direction of @dianewittry and I am thrilled that @seattlecollaborativeorchestra will perform this extraordinary work this November.
I hope you will take a few moments to read the blog. I am quite proud of this one, and I hope it resonates with you.
Lucky to have my mom Jan Edwards and my awesome son @jgarvue . It has been fun to think deeply today about what they have taught me in this lifetime. ❤️❤️
I cannot begin to express my pride of last night’s @allentownsymphony performance of @jjaxson_music cello concerto “Anchored” written for @iamjalayne and conducted by the wonderful @dianewittry . A rich musical story full of potential, community, love, and opportunity. ❤️🎶
✨️🎼✨️ This weekend's program includes the World Premiere of the @jjaxson_music cello concerto, "Anchored"! Performed by @iamjalayne , the piece was commissioned by the Allentown Symphony Orchestra.
Here's the story behind the new work...

I am so proud of SCO and all of our accomplishments over the last 13 years and am excited to end the year performing the 1st mvt of Liebermann’s Flute Concerto (with Maia Nemes), Zwilich’s Bassoon Concerto (with Elena Conley (1st mvt) and Joey Vega (2nd mvt), and Shostakovich’s Symphony No 5 on Tuesday May 12 at Shorewood HS Performing Arts Center. Great music. Great community. 😊❤️🎶

It was a pleasure to be able to be the keynote speaker for the College Orchestra Directors Association in Rhode Island this year. It was such a pleasure to work with the awesome Diane Wittry and reconnect, meet and see so many wonderful educators across the country. Luis Víquez did an absolutely amazing job putting together this event - ESPECIALLY with the epic snow (37 inches!!!).
Today is my fabulous mother’s (Jan Edwards) 95th birthday. So continues to be one of the coolest women I know. My sisters (Amy, Evan) and our late brother (Wayne) were so lucky to have her as our mom! 😊❤️🎂🎶
Ten years ago, I finished my dissertation, “Gender and the Symphonic Conductor.” I could never have imagined how beautifully the Seattle landscape would evolve.
I’m so proud of the incredible women who are making stunning music and leading with vision, artistry, and strength. Here’s to today’s leaders—and the ones still to come. ✨🎶
