There are some spaces, shared with the right people, humming with the perfect blend of magical and mysterious, that reset your nervous system - itās important that we all turn towards those collective moments of awe and hopeful glimmers as the darker times pull at the fringes of our lives. Thankful to spend time celebrating @tannamontana251 who helped all of us gathered in this grounded and shared space achieve that through her delicious and luminous hospitality yesterday. āØ

SUNDAY PHOTOGRAPHY LESSONS - Just a few things Iāve learned in 8+ years behind the professional lens⦠while I donāt believe in hard and set rules for creative pursuits because, here are some things in no particular hierarchy that have guided me along the way.
1. Repetition, aka *seat time,* is EVERYTHING. You will not on day 1 or year 1, know how to pick up a camera and reflexively shoot in manual, light for most scenarios, or compose with ease. Training your eyes to identify and execute the shot, AND trust your editing instincts regarding color grading simply takes time and error. You are building *your* unique style.
2. Photography should be FUN - stress is the ultimate creativity killer. Do I still get butterflies before a shoot, or feel my pulse jump when a client is asking for returns? Yes. But practicing confidence means youāll be able to walk into spaces and communicate with calmness and precision, no rushing.
3. Photography - at least the niche I picked- is WORK, and often is physically taxing. I still overpack at times or reach for a piece of equipment I forgot at home (oops!)
4. Shit talking other photographers publicly does not make you cool or better, it makes you a cruddy human. Set standards for yourself, but remember that beauty is in the eye of the check writer.
5. Impact images matter more than quantity. Gone are the days I delivered 100 images out of an hour long session with 3/4ths looking the same. Always try to select the A-list shots that tell a story first round of highlights, the rest is gravy.
6. More (expensive) gear does not guarantee a superior image⦠knowing how to use the gear you have, and upgrading only when youāve maxed out capacity on your current kit is how stellar images are made.
7. If you have lit your image with precision, the editing impact should enhance not re-invent your photo for most food and Bev pics.
8. And finally - over consuming other creatorās visuals (or worse, AI slop), will lead to creative retina burnout. Turn your phone off, and stay present where youāre at, hopefully exploring the world around you with a sweet lens.
What would you add to this? šš¼#photographylife #sacramentophotographer
One of my very favorite things is watching friends who havenāt been to @historicstarlounge yet walk into the lobby and ascend three flights of stairs to take in the sumptuous dining room and bar that the team at Hyatt House/Star Lounge have worked on perfecting. Itās a delightful visual treat to watch their eyes grow wide every time. Sliding into a velvet bar chair, we order a craft cocktail and survey the seasonal menu created by @ga1ice . Itās a Tuesday night, and as we share our meal and clink glasses, we watch and listen as @samtheharpist plays his harp, and the shadows grow warmer by candlelight. Ordering a second round, weāve found our favorite neighborhood hangout spot. Meet you there sometime? #starloungesacramento #visitsacramento #sacfarm2fork #sacramentophotographer
I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing @jessejvida for his new role as Global Ambassador with @mrblackspirits ā we spent the afternoon utilizing the GORGEOUS space @thevalleyclubsf (which everyone should check out if they can!), and these are just a few of the branding shots we got. Congrats on your new role, Jesse!

Weāve collectively burned our retinas enough scrolling through this weekās tornado of news and bombshells. Hereās something soothing to reset your nervous system. Sacramento Spring is a brief window, and I didnāt want to waste the opportunity to exhale some of the heavy shit, and inhale my neighborhood flora and fauna before it shifts again. #sacramentospring #sacramentophotographer
This oneās for the industry I love ā the one that gave me everything when I had nothing. That I continue to create within and call my home.
Thereās real hurt happening right now. Conversations about accountability. Examinations of who has truly benefited from the systems weāve built, and who has been left out or harmed by them. The truth is, the fame and opportunity this industry offers to some has too often come at a cost to others ā and thatās worth naming plainly.
My advocacy has always been rooted in curious compassion and a commitment to justice ā for everyone, without exception. We can keep pushing these conversations to the next generation, or we can decide that now is the moment to hold the line, call out harmful behavior, and build something better.
The minimum ask? Embrace inclusivity and safety for ALL. Model the change you want to see. And extend an open invitation ā to everyone in this vast, storied constellation of hospitality ā to grow, evolve, and actively reject the behaviors that exploit and harm people. That goes for our industry, and for the world beyond it.
Iām here to amplify voices that have been silenced and point toward real pathways for change. I havenāt been personally harmed by those currently in question ā but advocacy doesnāt require personal injury. What we allow, or look away from, shapes all of us. After decades of stagnation, healing and hope have to be actively tended to.
Donāt lose your empathy. Letās build better tables. š¤
