I just returned from a beautiful, sun-filled stay in Vienna, where we held an inspiring session of the Advisory Board on Film Festival for the Bundesministerium für Wohnen, Kunst, Kultur, Medien und Sport (BMWKMS) @kunstkulturministerium 😆 My sincere thanks to @peter_schernhuber Michael Ledolter, @eckstein.theresa and Nela Nakovski from BMWKMS for their warm hospitality, as well as to my outstanding fellow board members Samira Saad-Zenagui and Andreas Ungerböck for such thoughtful, constructive, and forward-looking discussions 🙏 Beyond the meeting and some walks in this terrific city (see all the pics), it was a joy to reconnect with dear friends @anna__ceeh and @leninfilms and to spend time with the exceptionally talented Ukrainian director @myroslav.slaboshpytskiy now based in Vienna ❤️ It was a true privilege to have curated two of his remarkable early short films at the @berlinale before he rose to international prominence with his groundbreaking debut, The Tribe(Plemya) - who dedicated world sales was @alpha_violet which earned major acclaim, including top honors at Cannes @semaine_de_la_critique in 2014 🥳 His latest project, “Animal at War,” features @seanpenn whose unwavering support for Ukraine continues to inspire. 2016 wasn’t just a year — it was a frequency. Sewers, noise, friendship, anti-war art, and moments that can’t be repeated. in fragments. Art, sound, politics, encounters, and transformations — before “viral” meant empty. These images tell a story of art, sound, resistance, and transformation. It was an honor and a pleasure to meet the American sound artist and experimental composer Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, at Donaufestival. It was a blessing to spend time with the American rapper, performance artist, poet, and activist Mykki Blanco, to conduct a Laton interview with him, and to receive my artwork signed by Mykki. freq_out 12 — an audio installation and concert curated by the great Carl Michael von Hausswolff and presented by Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary and Tonspur— took place in Vienna from April 22 to May 1, located in the sewer at Girardipark, 1010 Vienna, the very place where parts of Orson Welles’ classic noir film The Third Man were shot. Alongside many regular contributing artists, this edition of freq_out included guests Peter Rehberg (RIP) of Mego Records and Hans-Joachim Roedelius of the legendary German group Cluster. Art and transformation with my lovely old friend Valera Krasnagir, head of the legendary Belarusian magazine Filet, at MediaBarCamp 2016 (May 26–29) in Lithuania. At that time, I was editor for international content at Filet. More magic: a Laton interview with Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails), Our legendary anti-war performances XXXXi̶s̶m̶ Toshain/ Makowsky/ Ceeh МИР : МИРУ : FRIEDE unfolded across five locations in Vienna, including two interventions at MQ Vienna and at Westbahnhof. I was not only involved as an artist, but also physically present, staying with the performance throughout. attending the Nomadic Art Camp, and finally the exhibition at the Gapar Aitiev Fine Arts Museum in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (August 5 – October 7). Also worth mentioning: the great article “Humor Instead of Rigidity” by Werner Rodlauer / Remm, published in an art magazine. Humor as resistance. Presence as art. Do like the Romans do – or rather, the Viennese! Or – Himmel über Wien ❤️😎👌 Naturally, as a devoted carnivore, it’s an absolute must for me to have a Wiener Schnitzel whenever I’m in Vienna. A golden, crispy masterpiece followed by a stroll through this stunning city, soaking in the architecture that makes even concrete feel poetic. This time, I went for the classic: Café Prückel – freshly renovated and as charmingly old-school as ever. Fun fact: since the renovation, even the waiters seem to have developed a friendliness and deep sense of humor 😋 But Vienna, of course, isn’t just about food – it’s a full cultural buffet. I was lucky to catch an art opening at Salz Vision Gallery (run by Ruslan Stetski), featuring three fantastic female artists – @kataoelschlaegel @katrin_s_weidhofer and @_viktoria.andreeva – brilliantly curated by @anne.avramut . Big thanks to my wonderful friend @anna__ceeh for taking me there (and for sharing her impeccable taste). And as if that wasn’t enough: dropping by the @viennale_official felt like stepping into cinema heaven. The retrospective of film icon Jean Epstein at my beloved Österreichisches Filmmuseum – with two of his silent shorts accompanied by live music – was pure magic 😍 A heartfelt thank-you to the Austrian Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS) for having me in #Vienna as part of their advisory board supporting national film festivals 🙏 Huge shoutout to @peter_schernhuber @eckstein.theresa and their wonderful team – and, of course, to my incredibly smart and inspiring fellow board members who kept my brain buzzing and my heart full 🥰 It was an absolute blast – and I can’t wait to return to one of the most cultural (and culinary) cities on the planet. Because let’s be honest – culture always starts with food 😉

A bloom of noise, memory, softness—and refusal. I don’t fix images. I complicate them. Pixel by pixel, I let them resist perfection. In the background, there’s Freyja—goddess of love and war. "ONTOLOGICAL REALITIES" – Eine visuelle und konzeptuelle Auseinandersetzung mit Gendercodes, Identität und Selbstwahrnehmung. In diesem Projekt (von 2004 bis 2010) erforschte ich die Spannungsfelder zwischen Ost und West, zwischen persönlichem Alltag und gesellschaftlicher Norm. Die Bilder sind mehr als Dokumentation – sie sind eine Dekonstruktion von Rollenbildern, Kontrolle und Emotion. Farben als Störung und Verstärkung. Die intensiven Farbverzerrungen, Überlagerungen und Fehl-Griffe brechen mit der klassischen Ästhetik und schaffen eine surreale Realität. Sie verdecken, verstärken und hinterfragen gleichzeitig – was wird sichtbar, was bleibt verborgen? Selbstporträts als künstlerisches Experiment. Meine eigene Präsenz in der Arbeit ist Teil des Konzepts: eine künstlerische Selbstbefragung zwischen Inszenierung und Intimität. Ich wurde gefragt, ob ich eine kleine Retrospektive meiner Kunst teilen kann – von meinen ersten Arbeiten in den 2000ern bis heute. Eine visuelle Reise durch alles, was mich und meine Kunst bewegt. DIY-Drucktechnik trifft auf expressive Kunst. Verzerrte Realität trifft auf rohe Emotionen. Ein Spiel mit Licht, Schatten und Identität. Wer ist es? Eine Figur, eine Idee oder ein Spiegelbild? Dieses Werk ist mit meiner selbst entwickelten Drucktechnik entstanden – ein Mix aus Kontrolle und Zufall, Experiment und Emotion. Jeder Druck ist ein Unikat, kein zweites Mal reproduzierbar.
