Noem Waal is a collaborative group project: a dialogue in sound, centered on improvisation and an unfiltered interaction between audio and movement.
Using vintage equipment: pulse/sine generators, oscillators, circuit bend drum machines and cassettes containing unreleased snippets, Noem Waal playes with the live material recorded into reel-to-reel tape loops. By using magnets pendulating over the tape loops, the live-recorded material on the tape gets erased and manipulated, a process out of which a constantly evolving blend of sound arises.
The process is partly uncontrolled, but at the same time determined by structures that provide direction without defining an end.
The second edition was presented at the Gunzenhauser Museum in Chemnitz for
@rastermedia for raster.open call soundtrack europa 2025.
