Creating artefacts for people you deeply feel for is such a profound and fulfilling act. I’m so lucky to have experienced this pleasure with my latest brief - a poster for a very special event, ‘Anima’.
‘Anima’ celebrates the release of Sueños’ debut single. It also applauds the creativity of some very talented people who will be sharing their mysteries all around The Ice Factory.
Sueños is a group with a very honest & mesmerising approach to making music. Having had the privilege to see them mould into a wonderfully shared and desired idea, it was fairly easy to tap into their energy and translate their offered experience into a subtle visual cue.
For this brief I wanted to create something that serves as a gentle reminder of free flow, a suave movement: keeping it minimalistic, type-orientated with a subtle hint of artistry.
Thank you for the fun, boys @lossuenos.band x 🦢🥀🌗✨🪩♟💛

A demo for the kids - peaches under pressure, literally.
I cannot stress the importance of process work enough.
It is crucial.

My day 1 muse, my introduction to illustration, the first Capetonian artist’s name I knew by heart.
@kirsten.sims well done with a glorious show, your work remains remarkable 🍊✨
Slow Grower
2022
Oil on Fabriano
251 x 179 mm
Framed in Kiaat
Sold to dark haired pixie
No.3 | A title true to itself - a bountiful yield of preservation. 'Slow Grower' came from a wavering but hopeful place - a place where creativity was plentiful, but expression was poor. It required an effort to harness and translate the very feelings that inspired it. The result: a tangible memory celebrating the acknowledgement and acceptance of metamorphosis. In addition, ‘Slow Grower' is a reminder of time and its patient nature. It reminisces the world. It humbles its people, and announces the importance of growing together. It, too, acknowledges that we all have different growing seasons and that we need to nurture one another during those bittersweet transitions.
Growth is crucial, it is progressive, it is sacred and essential - it doesn't have a timeline, it is indefinite.
Grow in harmony, humans 🍊✨🌗
Forever Lemon Love
2022
Oil on Kraft Paper
180 x 150 mm
Framed in Kiaat
No.1 | This one came out of necessity. It’s funny how the ones I fall most in love with are the ones I make with the least of intention. After spending hours trying to solve the mystery of the perfect monoprint, I stepped away from the press, sighed and took a seat. Fuelled by a lack of self-expression and creative frustration, I grabbed the nearest piece of paper - kraft paper left over from an ‘art for beginners’ workshop - and bewilderedly started painting. Before I knew it, I found myself deeply tapped into my imagination - exploring my memories and fleshing out the components of my latest muses. Eventually - after constantly humming my oh-so-familiar mantra-words, ‘trust the process’ - a few shapes appeared, intention was added, and meaning created.
'Forever Lemon Love' forever x

Dark femininity - a term my dear friend @evaaa.ai introduced to me hence the name of my playlist and an alternative way of approaching life (add some salt to it).
In other news: my most recent body of work - a modest but wholesome total of three artworks - strives to question the fleeting curiosities that slow down life and are so often longed for by contemporary society. The artworks manifest these curiosities as they carefully zoom in on the 5-millisecond space gaps where gratitude for conscious living is glorified as significant stillness.

Last night was wonderfully fun. A whole-soul thank you to every human who came to our artsy party - even if it just was for the free wine. Grateful x

Hello dear humans 🦢✨🍊 It’s time for my annual “hey, I am back, please don’t forget me” post. Yes, it’s been a while since my brushes got dipped into my imagination. Yes, I’ve tried and tried, and eventually, yes, again, I dusted them off and welcomed back the paint stains on my cheeks.
By now you know I believe in being transparent and sharing the unacknowledged challenges and small but sweet successes of one’s creative practice. It’s important that we build a creative community where empathy is nurtured and individuality - without judgement - is encouraged. That begin said, the most difficult part of creating again was, as per usual, learning to trust the process. This has always been difficult for me as my work is very much process-led. It changes a lot, it changes with me. The ideas that gave birth to the artworks are often not the ideas the artworks reflect when completed. I love that about my process. It’s my way of giving back to the ‘gods of creativity’ - allowing the artwork authority to choose its own destiny.
Anyway, I made some new stuff and I’ll be exhibiting them - next to my immensely talented and creative coworkers - at @artist.admin tomorrow, the 19th of July, 18:00. Please come celebrate the opening of ‘After Admin’ by Artist Admin with me and my fellow artsies - this one’s going to be special x
