Lao Jiu 2026 (小马) Some unfiltered onstage moments. 1. I start singing the final verse of 野马3 taking a breath together with @mrjulian.official - I love this beat. Then have to plot how my eyes can “naturally” move upwards from orchestra pit to audience. 2. My favourite scene hands-down because of all the unscripted moments with this crazy family, and all “in character”. But 三姐夫 @junigoh wins in terms of making me 笑场. IYKYK. While we all bond over not getting blinded by @wysomwong costume. 3. WOW. SO BEAUTY!! But my insides are JELLY!!! Thanks @felixlim for your arms of strength as a 仙女。 4. Before we enter as monkeys, I do a mini dance-off with @hello.marco (me on stage right, him on stage left). 5. So much fun discussing how Shifu (QC) suceeds/not in avoiding smacking the puppets against the puppet stage and/or getting tangled in the curtain. 6. I gave up and just integrated laughing into my character’s choices cuz these 8 sisters I KENNUT. 7. Equal parts iconic. And painful. (@huishspace is very patient, so is ex military band member @jeanseizure ) we do this number at least twice a day as part of our pre-show warm-ups. In a dazzling array of footwear, from CROCS, to SANDALS, to SLIPPERS. 8. The scene that earns the most amount of unwanted pregnant pauses during school matinee performances because of gasping, tittering and oooh-ing. To avoid eye contact in fear of 笑场 ，thanks to height difference, I sometimes sing to @huang_jun_rong shirt collar instead. Turned out to be a useful strategy for other scenes. 9. 回头草！The pose that helps me carry my anger. Because @kuo_jian_hong says my character is only allowed one outburst in that number. 💚💚 Jan & Feb Toured our show #recesstime to Kaohsiung - yeeeaaa I eat for a living. But experienced an out-of-body level of shag the next day when I had to do a presentation about @practicetuckshop And while doing #LaoJiu, squeezed in a workshop on #ecotheatre for laselle’s MA Arts & Ecology students! 🫶🏼 thanks @wang_ruobing for the invite and scroll to see some of the participants’ offers at the end. And in the background bubbling away, we’re still chiong-ing our beta version of the Singapore Theatre Green Book. It’s a lot of work but nowhere as challenging as me scheduling a run with Joey. It’s been 3 months and still… cannot. 😱

This Earth Hour, we share Silent Resonance: Bulbul’s Heart Has Grown Cold, by South Korean Composer Bumki Kim and premiered at ECOncert 2025. Inspired by the Bulbul, a bird often seen in Singapore’s urban landscape, the work reflects how environmental change affects not just people, but the many living beings around us. Through the perspective of the Bulbul, the music traces moments of noise, tension, and silent unease within a shifting environment. As Earth Hour reminds us of the importance of climate action and protecting biodiversity, Ding Yi share this work as a small invitation to pause, listen, and reflect on the world we inhabit together. Where do I even BEGIN with #LaoJiu. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would journey with this show from 2012 (as my first professional gig) to playing 小马 in 2026. Never in my craziest dreams did I think that each version would be better than the last because the same creative team are still here, still pushing themselves, and inviting new creatives onstage and behind-the-scenes to join the family. So if you’ve watched WICKED x number of times, why not do this with #LaoJiu? We rerun only because we don’t have the financial capabilities to run a show over years. So we split the run into… 3 times over 14 years instead. 🫠 Scroll to see how even though I’m apparently ‘tall’, but RELATIVE to my scene partner, the height difference is a bit sad.
