Orlando Antonio Fernandez aka "El Camello" 🇩🇴. Born in Santiago D.R., his cousin is former Dominican president Leoenel Fernandez. He arrived to NYC at 20 years old and quickly took to the streets, becoming a feared enforcer for a variety of infamous crime figures in Harlem, Washington Heights & The Bronx. His older brother Omar led a crew in Harlem known as "Los Santos". Orlando packed 2 guns at all times and people paid him to carry out collections and guard illegal gambling spots among other duties. He earned the nickname "El Camello" (The Camel) because he had scoliosis which gave him the appearance of a slight hump in his upper back. He was close with Angel "Cuson" Padilla, the ruthless co-leader of The South Bronx's C & C Gang whom he credited with saving his life and even named his son after him. In 1978 he was involved in a shootout inside The Veinte De Mayo Restaurant on St. Nicholas Avenue leaving multiple men wounded while he was shot five times. That incident earned him a prison sentence and he was released after serving 5 years. In 1983, 28 year old Fernandez was in Zapatos Bar in Harlem when he got into an argument with another group of men. Fernandez shot a man named Felix Ramirez 3 times, then fled the scene in a car but crashed at 181st & Audubon. An off duty housing officer happened to be passing by and exchanged shots with him, hitting him in the wrist and a bystander was also struck in the neck. Fernandez took off running but was apprehended in a nearby alleyway. Ramirez later died at the hospital while the bystander was treated and released. Fernandez was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon and given a sentence of 20 to Life. In prison he was tight with "Caballo" the leader The Trinitarios gang. He served over 25 years then was released and deported to DR where he presently alive and well.
