Today we celebrate our 40th Anniversary.
I’m Kate, custodian, owner and perfumer of this fragrant heritage.
We opened in 1985 on Columbia Road in the heart of the Flower Market when my mother Angela added pot pourri and dried flowers to her decorative painted furniture.
Soon the fascination with scent took over and perfumed candles and perfume arrived. Our cherished Signature collection was the first created by Angela.
The Signature Collection lies at the heart of our brand and offers scents for every taste, from crisp dry citrus and chypre, to fresh florals, sensual rose and deep woody, ambers.
In celebration we have revisited and reimagined this group of perfumes with new crystal bottles and a single eau de parfum strength.
We continue to make our perfumes in small batches, hand pouring them when they are ready, as we did in our early days.
The Columbia Road shop remains today as it was decorated originally with Angela’s design and paint finishes.
Forty years on, we are proud to have been recognised with Best Independent Fragrance fragrancefoundationuk, twice, met many fragrant friends and customers along the way, have opened a second shop in Spitalfields and now a selection of perfume fortnums

Rose Poudree is a lovely delicate, musky and powdery rose perfume.
With its soft pink ribbon it is inspired by the boudoir and the scents of the dressing table.
Rose is layered with violet, iris and a gossamer like base of musk, ambrette and sandalwood.

Ten years ago I was passed a scented legacy
I was entrusted with the perfume business my late mother Angela Flanders had built from the very start, here in our home on Columbia Road.
A former costume designer, antique dealer and interior designer, my mother took a small shop here in the Flower Market to use as a studio for her painted decorative furniture and antiques – the rest as they say is history.
Captivated by the changing seasons on this unique London street, she started a new journey, teaching herself about the history and creation of perfume. Starting with pot pourri and home fragrance, scented candles and latterly perfumes. A journey I was privileged to share.
Accolades and awards followed, word spread and interested people journeyed to visit and discover this perfume shop in the East End of London.
For the past ten years I have worked to build on the wonderful legacy she created.
Our ethos has remained the same, our artisan roots of making small batches of perfumes that inspire us, making all our products in house and continuing to work with other British craftspeople.
Today we remain proud to call Columbia Road our home, and to continue to create beautiful fragrances.
So thank you to Angela who many of you will remember, who was so bold, so visionary and so very creative.
And thank you to all of you who have been with us along the way.
