A few months ago, I was contacted by @ea, who utilize my lens encoding hardware on their mocap stage in LA. They needed a way to go wireless without adding to their congested 2.4GHz network…and they needed it in less than a week.I spent the next few days designing and building a fully custom 915MHz addon module for my E2E FIZ box, as well as a receiver and all the firmware/software to make it work. I sent it all off, they said it was working, and I didn’t hear anything for a while…Until GDC, when they asked to use my logo in a presentation they were giving, on how they used my system for the cinematics on @battlefield ! I’ve been a fan of the Battlefield series all my life, so it’s so cool to be able to contribute in a small way.#virtualproduction #battlefield6 #cinematography #mocap

I’m so excited to be able to share some work we did 8 years ago for @theletter_movie, which finally premiered last week!I built this “miniature” (it was huge) replica of an existing mill building, which we lit on fire in front of a “lake” we built in a backyard. The mill was mainly wood, coated in a fire retardant coating in which I sculpted scale wood texture. The coating also let us keep it burning for a long time.I scaled the building based on some key measurements of the real one, and then from photos for all the details. Certain details had to be 3D printed and then cast in plaster to get the right scale.Special shoutout to Heath Winn, Ryan Steinhouse, and Andis Rutkis (none of whom seem to be on instagram) for handling the pyro and propane rigging#miniature #modelmaking #specialeffects #practicaleffects #filmmaking

The other day we released our 2024 reel for @smashvirtualstudios, and I’m so proud of the work we’ve been able to produce right here in Chicago.Virtual production has really opened up a whole new world of incredible visuals to all kinds of productions, from features and TV to music videos and commercials. We’ve really been enjoying pushing the limits of the tech and finding exciting new possibilities.I’m super excited to see where 2025 takes us!

I’m doing a bunch of stuff at @filmscapechicago this weekend! On Friday, I’ll be part of a panel on film industry hiring at 4:30On Saturday I’ll be doing When Does Virtual Production Make Sense at 10:45And an AI panel with Jay Holben at 4:30PM,and will be helping with the LED volume setup throughout.Come say hi and learn some stuff!

I’ve been busy! I spent this year re-doing my line of lens data tools for virtual production, and announced a new generation of lens encoder, Ethernet adapter, and a sweet little sync checker tool. The response has been great, and these will all be available from @bhphoto in the coming weeks!These tools let you map and send lens data for virtual production, greenscreen, and VFX work. Compatible with Unreal, Disguise, Aximmetry and basically everything else :)Also took the time to redo my website and add a store for direct purchases, check it out at loledvirtual.com!#virtualproduction #unrealengine #vfx #ledwalls
