When a picture paints a thousand words….
I’m not one for reflective posts, but having a coffee shop and a bike shop in 2025 means it’s been a tough year - and 2026 probably won’t be any easier. But this picture just about sums up the why. Seeing a large group of friends celebrating a (sorry John!!) major birthday, none of which would have known each other if it wasn’t for the little bike shop and cycling club I started in Poulton back in 2009.
Huge thanks to the fantastic teams at Discover Bikes and Carlé’s Coffee - and just as importantly a massive thank you to all of our customers, a lot of whom I would consider friends.

Rare trip to London for me on Thursday afternoon / evening, first time at @rouleurlive and a great opportunity to catch up with people I hadn’t seen in a long time.
Some stunning bikes - favourite was probably the @fatcreations@argon18bike Nitrogen (but then purple is my favourite colour so I’m a little biased!!).
Followed by a cracking pizza before the train ride home.
Rare day off to myself, do thought a bike ride might be a good idea!!! Quick 30 ish mile gravel route planned and off I went - that was a mistake!!!
Forgot how hard gravel routes were!! Only one close call with a ditch on a rocky downhill, but did decide to lie down in a stinging nettle bush when I completely lost traction on a muddy climb 🤦♂️
Big thanks to the team at @elevenbibury for being so welcoming to a muddy cyclist - and even found somewhere safe to put my bike 🙏
So lessons learned today….
1️⃣ A 30 mile, mainly off-road route is a LOT harder than a road route - and I’m very unfit!!
2️⃣ Lycra shorts are not thick enough to protect you from stinging nettles!!
3️⃣ I need more mud clearance on my bike!!
4️⃣ When a thorn is big enough to go through the side of your shoe - it’ll probably still be in your foot when you get home!! And yes, it hurt!!

The part of organising events that no one see’s!!
After a full on day in the coffee shop yesterday it was time to start packing away and sorting everything out!!
Barriers returned to @lpsevents , Race kit borrowed from @britishcyclingsouth returned to the storage unit over near Chippenham (and checked in by the tireless volunteer that is Pete Deamer) - still got the bike fit room to tidy up and our own kit to pack away then we’re almost done.
Just the full sets of race results to do, invoices & expenses to pay, sponsors to send follow up reports to, race reports to write and helpers to thank (and I’m sure there will be more things I’ve forgotten!! 🤦♂️)
And all for the love of our sport!! Now to start thinking about next years race!!!
