After ten long years, January is over, and it's another anniversary for me. (Every link mentioned below can be found in my bio). When this work was shiny and new, I celebrated every milestone! I still do and will, but certain things were thanked and let go as time went on. I no longer make a post for every release, every accolade, every event. I no longer have TikTok on my phone. I got my first MySpace account at twelve (I cheated) and 16 years later, my relationship to social media is making another shift. I'm making this official by doing my last annual update. As of today, my first audiobook came out 4 years ago, I've done VO full-time for 2 years, and so many other things have happened. I'm excited, grateful, and lucky. Slides two and three expand on this. So what's next for me? I'll still post on Insta occasionally, but I won't be making new video content for Reels or TikTok. Some of my favorite videos are now on YouTube, and any future livestreams are likely to happen there, but I won't be making things there either. Obviously audiobooks will continue, but in my own life I'd like to write more. I've started a Substack where I'm trying to write fiction, essays, and poetry to chase the creativity I've sidelined for years. You can join me there for free, or join as a paid subscriber for audio recordings I narrate on every post. Right now, there are four pieces with free audio recordings there, including a piece very dear to me about my college closing. Hundreds of hours of my life have been lost to doom scrolling. I'm almost 30 and I'd like to make more of my personal wants and hopes that haven't been prioritized because of exhaustion and depression, anxiety and, honestly? Fear, too. I'm not disappearing. I feel incredibly nervous sharing this piece. It feels like the most vulnerable thing I've ever put out to the world. I worry whether I've said the right things or been too honest. I guess we'll see 😅 Link in bio~ Writing this started with grief. After I heard the college I went to, Simon's Rock, was closing, I wrote in a tear-fueled flurry through my mixed emotions about this place closing. When I finished it in November, I shared it with close friends and realized it wasn't where I wanted it to be. The flurry made me realize how much I'd missed writing, and something else was calling me to bring my new creative life to the piece: to record it. But I set it aside for two months. When the fires in LA started, I was watching friends navigate change and grief, mourning and transformation, and it led me to pick up the piece again. I reorganized it line by line, then rewrote it from scratch. I'd like to write more. I'd like to be more honest about my emotional life. I feel like I've started to do that while working on this. But really, this piece is just about a place I loved. A place that sometimes hurt to be in. A place that's disappearing.
