We’re happily welcoming Nat Skoczylas at ROOTED this year, with their “Nettle Bar” 🫂 Nat will be offering a space to encounter nettles in various forms and shapes. We will be meeting with them in shapes and forms of liquid solid glutenous stewy. We will recall getting stung by them in the spring while we’re looking for wild raspberries, browsing through the leaves. How they always left goosebumps on our silky teenage calves. Nat Skoczylas is a genderqueer artist, anarchist witch and activist/organiser, living between Berlin and Massia(ru), Estonia. They are part of new visions (an interdisciplinary collective of eastern European and Baltic folks working on inner transformation and interdisciplinary collective processes), Massia (boiler janitor, prefigurative organiser, fermenter, gardener, cook and community weaver), Casino for Social Medicine (an experiment in mutual aid and solidarity located on Sonnenallee, where they do bar shifts, build community, fix the plumbing, and co-develop the socio-political and actual menu). They initiated femAle, a queer feminist, anarchist brewing project, which was part of the Circles UBI experiment in Berlin for some years. Nat works mostly with collective collaborative practices – cooking, foraging, preserving, writing, performance, facilitation. They explore the radical horizons, the speculative, the impossible, the unknown, the mystical, and the revolutionary from a trans/queer/eco-feminist perspective. Their work is invested in mutual aid, solidarity, autonomy, the commons, transformative justice, abolitionism, and decolonial, anticapitalist practices. How are we with nettles these days? Nat invites us to recall and laugh, make new memories, bite it, spit it, chew it, take silly selfies, flagellate, massage, intentionally sting and get stung by each other, especially where it hurts so it hurts a little less. Let’s do it together? ROOTED festival is happening on 13 & 14 June, 2026, at @institutforx , @detpoetiskekvarter , @radarlive , and around. See you there? 🦋

UPDATES FOR TONIGHT Wednesday 17th The reading with Dean Spade has to be cancelled unfortunately due to sickness (we will let you know about a new date) but please still come by !!! A lot of love and energy has been flowing into cooking for the event tonight and to raise funds for a family in Gaza: Ula’s family from Al-Shatee Camp that is currently being eradicated by the Israeli army. Displacement costs are skyrocketing, and we’re trying our best to cover them to secure a relatively more safe place in Gaza. We’re serving this food in the hopes of pushing her fundraiser & secure better help for her family. Every contribution is appreciated and very much needed. 💚🌿♥️🌿💚 RE SCHEDULED: sticking together in tough times ❤️‍🔥 nat skoczylas will be in conversation with Dean Spade about his latest book “Love in a F*cked Up World: How to Build Relationships, Hook Up, and Raise Hell, Together”. About how we build resilience in our movements, families and communities. How we grow more complex and nuanced bonds, and how these help us through the revolutions to come. About autopilots, respectability politics, accountability, discomfort, fucking around and fucking up the state - or who knows, we will drift somewhere together, and you are invited to help us out with the directions with your questions. ❤️‍🔥

4 psychedelic years, the coven is wrung out and renewed - we have transformed through tons of letting go and making and holding of space. We have been through shit Drama trouble movement distance trauma of all sorts and many many roads opening. I am learning so much with you all in this collective, but particularly and especially with @agnieszkabua and @liene.jurgelane - how to be wild and weird and deep, how to transmute gracefully. How to walk those roads together, separate, in parallel. How to nurture the universes that collide once a year in a vortex of psychedelic sober nature induced rawness of connection. How to sing. I bring my own intuitive brilliance and sharp love. I congratulate myself on stubbornness that makes dreams and visions come true - I saw Massia as home for new visions long ago, and after those years so many relations with this space developed, and I already can tell - many many more will. My Capricorn and Virgo nature guided by Aquarius alien from the future optic continue pushing the maintenance and reproductive care in various directions - how we engage in these necessary mundane unglamorous acts is so fundamental to all the love we share. Inside out, outside in. Transformation is in taking the compost out and weeding the garden, changing the tires together on a forest road and chopping the wood outside of the barn. So much empowerment in doing the hard unpleasant shit and finding growth in discomfort. The revolution ripples in many ways - material and immaterial, on scales and timelines of all kinds. I feel it’s pulsing. I am delighted to report I am finally surrounded by people mature enough to understand the divine dynamics of loving in service. They teach me the very sexy skills of being soft, of being taken care of, of suspending judgement, of staying with the trouble and other glittery qualities. The eclipse, such a show! sealed a glowing stamp on a body that’s less of a head these days, crying tears of joy and grief as one soup, walking other worlds, very much possible. To love and rage and revolution 🔥

“Miinikollane# 12,15,11,10,14”. Ink Wash on Paper, 38,5x56,5 cm. 2025. Miinikollane — a series of graphic works created during the EAA MUHU ART RESIDENCY in Nõmmküla, a small fishing village on Muhu Island, Estonia, in June–July 2025. The name translates as “mine-yellow” and is connected to the events of 1917, when fierce battles took place in the Moonsund Strait off the coast of Muhu between the russian and German fleets. As a result of these clashes, several ships, including mine-laden battleships, were damaged or sunk. Local residents collected metal from the wrecks, which was then processed into pigment for dyeing traditional skirts. This unique shade of yellow, produced in this way, became known as Miinikollane and over time has become a symbol of Muhu Island, reflecting its historical memory and connection to the sea. “Apl315 is LOORE Artist-in-Residence at EKL Muhu A.I Kunstitalu. Artist- in-residency is funded by Nordic Culture Point (Additional funding to support Ukrainian Artists, residency funding module of the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture)” #apl315 #eesti #muhu #miinikollane #nordicculturepoint #loore #eestikunstnikeliit

I am on my way back home from a residency organised by gay dancers turned gardeners - still giddily impressed by the amount of care, attention and hope, as well as solidarity this space inspired. Having cis men provide full time care, spaces to rest, attention to details and flexibility, as well as somatic embodied practices, was literally life changing. I have met people possessed by the more than human world in ways I want to be possessed by it. At nature’s service, world building, devoted, deconstruct/ing, gorgeous, on track. Theater directors who flixbus around the continent to conferences, because yes there is no other way to protect the planet than to change the habits that damage it. Who use their access to house refugees and buy out plots of land to be turned into community and wild gardens, inviting pollinators and biodiversity, heirloom species and newcomers adapting to the changing climate. Witches moving into tiny villages to grow herbs for the local communities. PhD researchers who use their institutional access to build actual gardens and rest spaces for BIPOC communities. Folks cracking the museums and universities open to refugees and minorities, and to underpaid workers. The materiality of the work made my heart swell. Also, people’s commitment and warmth. The diversity of expression and acceptance. The endless bombastic laughters and ridiculous stories we made up. The gorgeous gossip corners. The nettle, my companion, popping every day day on my paths. The rolling in the grass and the dinners at the river side, the delicious food we harvested and cooked together. The generous softness and openness to tension and conflict. The blessing of Italian summer, the corn fields, the impeccably clean streets, the mountain covered in snow on the horizon watching over us, the far perspective and the crescent moon. Home coming with my basket full of hope, inspiration and energy to continue showing up for a world that holds many many worlds. May our gardens grow queerer and wilder.

🌱 Nowruz: Shared Resilience, Renewal, and Resistance 🗓 29.03 ⏰ 5 PM - 6 AM 📍 H48 🔥 Nowruz, Navruz, Nooruz, Newroz, Nauryz, or نوروز in Persian translates to “New Day.” Celebrated for over 3,000 years across West and Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin, the Balkans, and South Asia, it marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the new year in the Solar Hijri calendar. For many, Nowruz is more than just a celebration—it is a symbol of resistance against imperial domination and colonial oppression. Throughout history, states seeking to suppress cultural identity have banned or violently repressed Newroz celebrations. In the Kurdish struggle, it has become a festival of defiance and resilience. In Turkey, dozens of civilians have been killed during so-called “illegal” Newroz gatherings, while in Syria’s Kurdish regions, security forces opened fire on celebrants in 2008, 2010, and 2023. Nowruz was banned under the USSR, and while the prohibition no longer exists, Russian colonial influence continues to shape lives today. As a result, Nooruz remains deeply connected to the decolonial struggles of the Caucasus and Central Asia, including regions still under Russian rule. In Armenia, where Nowruz is not central to the local culture, it has also regained visibility as an important tradition for communities with Kurdish and Persian cultural ties. In these times of growing polarization and violence, we recognize the power of decolonial joy. As activists, artists, and communities we come together to celebrate, connect, and resist. Join us for a night of music, rituals, and community as we welcome spring, renew our spirits, and strengthen our collective resilience! Entrance donations will support journalists in the home countries of the participating artists. Bar profits will help H48 in its legal battle to keep the house for its residents. For all oppressed peoples, to inspire nature and people to embrace spring: Biji Newroz! Ji bo hêzdar kirina xwezayê û mirovan bo biharê: Biji Newroz! ✊ design: @ziliae_

@anarchofermentation nat skoczylas (they them) is an anarchist-activist and community organiser/weaver/wanna-be-healer whose commitment to Massia, aka School of Livelihoods, took two main forms: that of nutrition, preservation and practical care; and that of exploring decoloniality as a rooted practice. During the period of our collective residency, nat has been focusing on the intersection between Anti-colonial and de-colonial practices in the context of the Baltics/Eastern Europe, from which they also hail. How and what ancestral practices of living off of and with the land and its complex ecologies are there to learn from, to transmute, to queer, to bring, borrow, root into new systems of relation. What kinds of relations support disengaging from colonial modalities and which ones help us undermine it. nat is interested in the crafts and the wisdoms and skills of the common people as a way to build resilience and intimacy. Through a program they curated and co-led, Decolonise Eastern Europe, they brought together practices of traditional singing and dancing, cooking together, foraging, reading and somatic, embodying expressions of abolitionist, liberatory future. nat co-designed and supported Gut Health festival, focusing on the microbal more than human health of the gut and other life-supporting systems, looking at well-being from a wider, societal, political, collective perspective. Nat has also been running the kitchen/fermentation/preservation efforts over the autumn, supporting the creation of the apothecary and the pantry for Massia. This work was produced with the financial assistance of the European Union. The views expressed herein can in no way be taken to reflect the official opinion of the European Union. School of Livelihoods is supported by Culture Moves Europe, a project funded by the European Union. #unlearning #holisticdramaturgy #movementoracle #gutfestival #CultureMovesEurope #PushBoundaries #CreativeEurope

this is a belated wrap up post for the decolonizing eastern europe week that we hosted at @massiaofficinale in the end of september. and what a week it was! thanks to @anarchofermentation and @ne1thern0r for co-conspiring and co-facilitating. looking back at these photos makes me all giggly and warm inside. i feel incredibly fortunate to be able to work together on organizing gatherings like this outside the bounds of the art world, the music scene, and the academy. and in constant relation to the land in and around massia, with other incredible thinkers, movers, feelers. the process of connecting local and global struggles around nationalism, indigeneity, and history through a decolonial perspective focussed on eastern europe felt vital, to say the least. aituma, aituma, aituma! [1] a fire we had to conclude the gathering [2] a vareniki making workshop [3] eating said vareniki [4] collectively reading merili metsvahi's text on the hidden matriarchial history of estonia and how serfdom actually helped preserve these alternative power structures [5] one of the many reading and discussion circles [6, 7] a visit to the bog [8, 9] a spontaneous harvest of an edible mushroom named chicken of the woods. estonians aren't very familiar with this species, but it tastes incredible. [10] collectively reading elizabeth povinelli's text on the ways in which indigeneity is appropriated by right-wing groups and what an alternative way of linking land-based struggles and identities throughout time and place might look like [11] more discussion [12] collectively reading an excerpt of suely rolnik's text on the decolonization of the unconscious. dense, but delicious! [13] everyone in awe of kseenia's buns and trying to document them [14] said buns [15, 16] a brilliant workshop (party!?) on the queering of traditional folk dancing and singing by @kartulisalat and @muusattomuus . with great critical choreological insight from @madliteller .
