“RÍA, Reconciliación Íntima con el Agua” by @an_altazor ritual created with water. A ritual of memories, stories, and experiences: the power of water as a medium to convey a message. The different ways in which water appears in our lives: in our past as memory, in our present as matter, and in our future as life. Q&A🗣️ 1. Dream with us: if there are NO OBSTACLES how would you like to see this event grow? I would love to see this Festival become an important platform for Latinx artists in Chicago, a flagship event that legitimizes, highlights, and elevates the artistic and cultural presence of Latin communities in the city. I hope it becomes a safe and welcoming space where more Latin migrant communities can attend, enjoy, and connect with the performances. At the same time, I hope people from other cultural backgrounds will also come, allowing them to better understand our concerns, cultural roots, and ancestral heritage. 2. And once you dream with us: Why is this event important AT THIS MOMENT. It is extremely important to carry out initiatives that place Latin communities at the forefront, that give us a safe space to share and to value the artistic, cultural, and economic contributions we make to this country. This is not only important but deeply relevant, not just because of the need for recognition as communities that contribute positively and significantly to this country, but also as an act of resistance and protest against anti-immigrant policies and the daily violence that continues to be inflicted on our migrant communities. It is a response to the ongoing rejection, the devaluation, and the attempt to erase our existence from these lands. That is why this event is so meaningful, especially in the current moment we are living through. It is necessary for us to express ourselves, to make ourselves visible, and to take a stand through art and through these deeply valuable gatherings. 🔗Tickets are available now *discount code: LATINX / 🗓️Saturday, October 11 📍Ruth Page Center, 1016 N Dearborn St, Chicago @ruthpagecenter 🕒7:30PM

Introducing Anniela Huidobro Castro for Curiosities of Wellness in Bodies of Grief and Joy at the @mcachicago 9/2 @an_altazor “My name is Anniela Huidobro Castro, and I am a Mexican immigrant. I’m the first of sixteen grandchildren in the Castro Castillo family. I grew up surrounded by fabrics and sewing machines, in a home deeply rooted in the traditions of sewing, handicrafts, and painting. I feel incredibly proud and grateful to carry Latin American roots—a rich mix of Indigenous, African, and European heritage. I was raised in Tlaltizapán de Zapata, a small town in the state of Morelos, Mexico, known for its flowing rivers and abundant water. That connection to water has stayed with me, and it’s one of the reasons I feel so at peace living in Chicago, near the vast and beautiful Lake Michigan. My spiritual life is deeply influenced by Buddhist philosophy and Vipassana meditation. I find joy in dancing to Latin and Afro-fusion rhythms. I grew up with salsa, cumbia, cha-cha-cha, and mambo pulsing through my body. I’m also a percussionist and have had the joy of collaborating on a variety of musical projects. Through my artistic practice, I strive to reconnect with ancestral and Indigenous knowledge rooted in native communities. I’m inspired by the beauty of nature, the wisdom and cosmovision of our Indigenous cultures, and above all, by a longing to help build a more loving, less violent world—one that lives in harmony with the Earth. My memories, my bond with the land, and my cultural traditions are what sustain and inspire me. I’m a deeply emotional, sensitive, and nostalgic person. I miss my family dearly and do everything I can to stay close to them and to those I love. Today, I live in Chicago with my husband, Gabriel. Together, we’ve embarked on this journey to explore new horizons and opportunities—both personal and professional.” Curiosities of Wellness in Bodies of Grief and Joy redefines the structure and systems of performance and invites the audience to sit with grief and co-create a portal to joy.
