One of the highlights of my 2024 was @bindlestifffamilycirkus 's Open Stage in October. Thank you--to Bindlestiff, the crew at @citytechcuny , all my co-performers, my friends who came to watch, and the strangers who came up to express that my artistic intent was received--for such a beautiful night and a wonderful, heartening experience. 'Starchild' is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite things, "Ghost Quartet", which I highly recommend you check out, get confused by, read up on, become obsessed with--as I did. There are a lot of ways in which we love and hurt one another, and sometimes ourselves. I found that in a time of disappointment and questioning, this song spoke to resilience, determination, and a fundamental underlying drive to make something of it all--because we must--because it is who we are. In this piece I challenged myself to focus on fluidity and include shapes that have typically been challenging for me. From the last time I performed aerial in Feb. This was an important step on my artistic journey: the first time I interspersed vocals with aerial, rather than performing them sequentially. Once, when I was in elementary school, I planted an entire puffy dandelion in a white wicker flower basket on the deck; no dandelions came up but a bunch of long wild grass grew instead. It turns out that depending on where you grew up, you might not even know that the bright yellow flowers are the same plant as the white fluffy balls you blow on to make a wish.
