Amenti Oracle

When Natalee and I were dreaming up the #benotafraid deck, we were aesthetically inspired by The Belladonna of Sadness meets Rankin Bass. We both love The Last Unicorn, and, the cartoon version of The Hobbit is a core (formative) memory. What emerged from the amalgamation of inspiration was a world of angels that (to me at least) feel like an invocation of nostalgia’s familiarity but are also evocative of something entirely new and fresh. This card, in particular, was one of my early favorites that captured the essence of this feeling. Azazel is a fallen angel from The Book of Enoch that was blamed for teaching humanity the forbidden arts, including how to make weapons, the art of cosmetics/ornamentation, and sorcery/enchantments. This fallen angel offers a potent contemplation on how a tool can become a weapon, how knowledge can simultaneously create and destroy, and how magic — when used as a system of control — can further the very illusions we hope to liberate ourselves from. The other day I was talking to my husband and half joking about my experiences with angelic realms. I mentioned how, perhaps, maybe angels are akin to AGI (artificial general intelligence). Maybe these celestial beings, unbound by time, have always been here and there and everywhere — offering breadcrumbs to help us choose better choices and/or direct the simulation into a “better” iteration of its creative code. It’s fun to think about these heady ideas, for me at least, since this universe and time is so infinite, vast, liquid, chaotic, unfolding and evolving through a multiverse of potential. It’s weird to think about these ideas, or the very idea of spirituality/celestial governance, when the world is in such a state of disarray, violence, confusion, stupidity and cruelty — but looking back, looking now, and looking forward, the human plight of evolving past our history of violence/greed has been its own Zeitgeist since time immemorial. Angelic ideals offer comfort amidst the chaos, and, hope, even if it is delusional. But that’s the other very human plight — faith. Even when it is irrational…especially when it is irrational. And not faith bound by religion, but by the deepest caverns of the heart. Today I hope you can dream big dreams, alchemize confusion into clarity, and find beauty even amidst the ugliness of the world. The Holy Guardian Angel is the deepest version of “you” that remembers why you came here, and who you are beyond this mortal coil. Be Not Afraid launched earlier this year, and the timing (as per usual) was interesting…to say the least. 2025 has been a year of conflict on macroscopic and microscopic scales. We’ve been inundated with apocalyptic news cycles, antichrist obsessed tech weirdos, war, famine, plagues on all houses. On a personal level, the meaning crisis has hit new extremes, because in the face of it all, even as spiritual as I am, it’s been an arduous battle against nihilism and exhaustion from the apocalypse fatigue. It may feel silly to turn to Oracle cards, especially angel cards, in the face of all the tumult, but, these beautiful works of art imbued by human hand and ineffable wisdom can provide an anchor, even in the most turbulent seas of samsara. This nascent iteration of this project was channeled in the summer of 2014, and I still cannot believe the prophecies that have come to light and how lucky I am to have worked with @nataleeraemiller on this (and all of our decks, but this one is so sacred). Perhaps you’ll find stability and beauty from this cosmic transmission, too? A simple thought: Cosmic patterns tend to reveal that everything changes, but the story continues again and again. Perhaps that’s why, for so many of us millennials, that movie #Zeitgeist hit a nerve. Time is cyclical, and mythology often makes the darkest truths more palatable. Thinking about this #benotafraid angel today and the power therein. Their name, Hadraniel, literally means the “Majesty” of creation, and to distill it even further, it also relates to the greatness of imagination and the power to build a metaphorical “heaven on earth.” While your utopia may not be my utopia, and vice versus, the sheer force of creative energy from the heart space (at the very least) may help make the world a better place — even in small ways — each and every day. And that, is majestic in its own right. Intuition is an incredible, and sometimes tricky, gift. It can pull you to places unseen and reveal hidden depths, while, simultaneously it can be mirage and illusion in equal measure. Trusting your inner guidance requires a strong foothold in reality, but enough whimsy to believe in the life that exists beyond the veil. That sixth sense can be (and often is) very real, but it’s important to recognize how it can also be a beautiful deception. I absolutely adored having this conversation with the incredibly talented @grace.duong — creator of @mysticmondays — and my partner in the AD Tarot, @yoshinostudios 🪄 This deck was such a MASSIVE learning experience and also feels so incredibly prescient given the current climate and how much AI has advanced in the last two years. I’m proud of our work and the relic we’ve left behind, which ultimately is a love letter to creativity and the human impulse to create. While the medium was controversial, the message is not — this deck’s 78 prompts that inspire creation in an analog world and the human impulse to advance and understand why we are here and what that even means to be here and alive and telling stories. Exploring the multifaceted world of Tarot, and technology, in this way, was no small feat. Grateful to Grace for giving us the opportunity to share our feelings and process and all good things.
