SESSIONS VOL XXII - Saturday Sept 6, 7:00pm @coffeystreet_studio Join us as the award winning, “fearlessly agile” soprano @ticateresa sings a portrait of herself in song, exploring her bilingual identity through a brilliantly varied program in English and Spanish alongside her longtime collaborator pianist @derrick__goff 🎶 2. FAMILY - September 12-28 @lamamaetc A @hoipolloiworld production presented in association with Amanda + James In this grotesque and pitch-dark play by Oscar-nominee @helloellephanta (Past Lives, The Materialists), three half-siblings mourn their late father and battle over what lies underneath the floorboards. More Possession than Past Lives, this early work of Song’s serves as a surreal parable of America’s psyche. OBIE-winning theater company Hoi Polloi – known for bracing work such as Winning is Winning and White on White – re-envisions their 2024 site-specific production for La MaMa’s architecture, seizing the opportunity to push the psychosis of the play to the max. 🏠 3. PARTY DISH Oct 17, 7:00pm + Oct 18 5:00pm & 7:00pm @cprnyc Party Dish is a cooking performance and eating disorder exorcism. A woman prepares linguini with clam sauce for the audience while live-mixing a layered sound and video landscape that mourns, ridicules and celebrates the joys, necessity and pain of consumption. It’s a rambling lecture given by an unstable dinner host. It’s a party. A+J seeks applicants for [working titles] our program featuring works in development of opera and music theater. We expect to accept up to four projects for our third cohort; successful applicants will receive a minimum 30 hours in the beautiful, spacious Coffey St Studio (5,000sq ft), a cash stipend, A/V support and capture of a presentation. New residency program for writers!! The Amanda + James Catskills Literary Residency is a self-directed retreat in the Catskills, which provides writers with up to two-weeks of exclusive access to a two-bedroom home in Andes, NY. Selected writers can work on any project they choose during the residency and are not required to share their final product. 🏡 Amanda + James will select two writers to attend. You MUST be available for one of the two set weeks – May 2-17 or July 11-26. You can bring a significant other or children, but no pets. Transportation is not covered and practically speaking you will need a car. Alongside this residency, the selected writers will be asked to engage with Amanda + James’s performances over the course of one year (2026/2027 season). We ask you to: 1. Attend at least three A+J performances over the course of the year of your residency. Two tickets per performance will be comped. 2. Write an essay (at least 1,000 words) about the work of some A+J artist. You don’t have to like it. Genuine and thoughtful criticism is a gift to the arts and to artists. You will be free to pitch your essay to other outlets or to publish it on the new A+J Substack. Honorarium: $500 paid at the end of the residency, when you submit your essay. The team I assembled for [working titles] is an absolute embarrassment of riches. Not a single weak link, every artist with a unique set of skills and individual approach. Many of these people I have worked closely with for years, others I have admired from afar and now have the opportunity to get down and dirty with. In many ways, I have already gotten in spades everything that I could possibly want out of this process. However, I am very excited for the opportunity to share with you the very cool work these good people have done over just a few short hours this past weekend.
