EP PROJECT A movie that was born during this special moment in time in my home town of El Paso. We managed to weasel our way into working on One Battle After Another, at that time we only knew it as BC project. Baktan Cross. Early in the novel Vineland, there’s a mention of what happened to a small town near where Return of the Jedi was filmed. “…George Lucas and all his crew came and went there’s been a real change in consciousness.” This part hits a little different now. Thank you to everyone who was involved with EP Project and I’ve very grateful for everyone I met and learned from on BC Project. Ay, it’s been 2 weeks since FILM SOUP but I wanted to share the live updates my mom was sending me while I was sick at home. Plus I wanted to give one more thank you to all who came out, contributed, and participated. Hearing all the feedback and seeing videos of people chilling at FILM SOUP has left a big ass smile on face. Gracias mamá.

This past year, my friends and I found a story about a man who works with concrete. We turned this story into a labor of love. A year and two days ago we took our first steps figuring out where this man worked, finding his work, and then discovering his own personal story. The only way we could make this movie is if we made it for our selves, we had to stop thinking about the all the rules we’ve been following, we had to let the art speak for it self. I never thought anyone would truly want to engage with it but luckily I was wrong. Premiering “THE SIDEWALK ARTIST” at Slamdance last month was surreal. Sitting in a theater with sweaty ass palms listening to all the reactions that everyone made me realize something. We might of made this movie for ourselves but now this movie is for y’all, the people who choose to gift us a part of their day so they can wind down and smile. We premiered our film, we won over the grand jury, and now we’re on the next audience. We’re screening our film today in my home town of El Paso and our subject, Juan Manuel Portillo will be watching it with his family. I couldn’t be more excited :) Thank you to everyone at @slamogram and at @epmf915 for providing us these incredible opportunities to share our work.
