This week: Alt Projects is pleased to announce 𝘠𝘪 𝘎𝘢𝘰 & 𝘗𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘺: 𝘚𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘈𝘭𝘭, a two-person exhibition featuring paintings by Yi Gao and ceramic sculptures by Pilar Wiley. The opening reception is on Sunday April 19th, 2-5pm. Named after a poem by William Carlos Williams in which life slowly reemerges after a harsh winter, the exhibition reflects the artists’ shared interest in exploring states of transformation and becoming. Together, the two Los Angeles-based artists evoke a natural world in flux: structures dissolve, forms mutate, and new configurations gradually emerge. To RSVP or to schedule an appointment, please email [email protected] Yi Gao @_yi__ Pilar Wiley @pattern_language Curated by Sean Arenas @sean_arenas Poster Design: Nicholas Ismael Martinez @ismael.nm - Yi Gao (b. [email protected] - Sophia Wolfe is a Southern California–based interdisciplinary artist working across installation, animation, film, and performance, whose practice is shaped through an ongoing collaboration with Sophia the Robot. Using motion capture, performance, and immersive media, she examines consciousness, embodiment, and the shifting boundaries between human and machine, often positioning her own body as both subject and model for artificial life. Drawing from interests in animation, special effects, and non-human phenomenology, her work explores the illusion of life through simulation, repetition, and material transformation. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Expanded Animation at the University of Southern California. Recent exhibitions include Humanizing AI at SCA Gallery (2025) and presentations at Angel’s Gate Cultural Center and Alt Projects.

He received a B.S. in Physics from Kansai University and previously worked as a systems engineer at Fujitsu before transitioning to his artistic practice. Recent exhibitions include Standing on Strangeness: We’re Only Human at Ginza Tsutaya Books, Tokyo (2024) and Holostrangeon at RA Art Gallery, Yokohama (2023)

Chinning Liu Onsite performance/ Time-based installation, 2026 Isomalt Shell, hydrated SCOBY The performance is conceptually modeled after a surgical procedure, by stuffing the hydrated status SCOBY into the Isomalt cavity, and braiding an extension cellulose film cord out of the sac. The procedure draws specific parallels to complex operations such as an organ transplant or a C-section. The SCOBY is regarded as the collaborator with the artist. Over the exhibition period, the SCOBY is expected to undergo dehydration, concurrently with the gradual consumption of the sugar shell. This dynamic process will progress toward a state of equilibrium between the two media. The timeline for this transformation will be complete by the exhibition's closing day. 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥 on view by appointment until April 15th. [email protected] Photography by @zengyi_zhao - Chinning Liu is an artist based in Taiwan and Los Angeles, her main practices are sculpture, kinetic installation, and biomaterial study. Chinning received her B.S. in Clinical Psychology at Fu Jen Catholic University, and Art MFA at California Institute of the Arts. With a background in science, Chinning’s work and research are often based on the hybrid impression of the human anatomy, biotic creatures, and geographic scenes. Through regenerating these wrecked and organic forms, her work ambiguates the borderlines between natural and artificial, human and inhuman, evoking the unconscious traces left behind by time. She has exhibited her works in Reef, Torrance Art Museum, Reisig and Taylor Contemporary, Cevera Yoon Gallery, San Francisco Art Fair, Seoul metropolitan gallery(Seoul), performed in Getty Center, and currently participating Reef residency (LA).

Tobias Fike "Pegasus", 2026 Mic stand, cables, incandescent and LED bulbs, radio, radio static, carpet, clamp, marbles from my uncle’s collection. Site specific installation. The marbles in the piece belonged to the artist's uncle, who passed away a few years ago. Arranged in the loose form of a constellation, they rest beneath a spotlight trained on a star 50 light years from Earth: a quiet nod to the artist turning 50 this past July. Fike echoes where the personal becomes universal, where one life reaches toward the stars. 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥 on view by appointment until April 15th. [email protected] - Tobias Fike is an interdisciplinary artist based in the suburbs of Denver, CO. Working across performance, installation, and collaboration, his practice weaves together deeply personal themes, such as family, place, grief, and humor, with expansive questions about time, the cosmos, and our place within it. He holds a BFA from the University of Nebraska and an MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder. His work has been exhibited internationally in cities including Berlin, Shanghai, and Coimbra. A collaborative work is held in the Kadist Art Foundation, Video Americas Collection in San Francisco.
