The 2025-2026 ski season is officially over in the Northern Hemisphere. I hope and wish for a great ski season in the Southern Hemisphere.
But while we enjoy spring and the coming summer, we don’t forget our passion.
On May 28th, these 6 original photos of F1 driver Jochen Rindt, taken during a skiing trip in the 1969-1970 season, will be auctioned at OstLich in Vienna, Austria.
The ill-fated Austro-German driver Jochen Rindt died as a result of an accident caused by a mechanical failure in his car during practice for the Italian F1 Grand Prix at the Monza circuit in September 1970.
It is a unique circumstance that Rindt, a keen skier, won the 1970 F1 World Championship posthumously.

Now that we are living, as never before, the wonderful and incredible epic of the Artemis II spacecraft, it has reminded me of this modern and happy skier in Sun Valley, Idaho, in 1974.

Holy Week. Easter.
Holy Thursday.
1940s. A religious procession, preceded by skiers, walks through the snow carrying the image of a Virgin, Our Lady of Nuria, in the Nuria valley, Catalan Pyrenees (Spain).
Our Lady of Nuria is the patron saint of the diocese of Urgell, of skiers and, traditionally, of fertility.

The brilliant and multifaceted Suzy Chaffee photographed in Vail, Colorado, by the equally brilliant Toni Frissell on November 1, 1969.
I love her incredibly long eyelashes… Which current downhill racer does she remind you of because of her long eyelashes???
Unreal. It looks like a drawing. But it’s the unmistakable and admired Émile Allais skiing in Méribel around 1950.

Besides posting old photos, I also ski.
I’ve worked for decades in the ski and mountain business, and we’ve always generally maintained that synthetic fabrics are better than natural fabrics. Well, to a certain extent, that’s false.
This season I’ve skied in various weather conditions wearing this outfit made of wool and cotton, and I have absolutely no complaints. I’m speaking from the perspective of a recreational skier, not a professional.
@streamlines.no anorak, made of cotton (@ventilefabrics )
@lodenwalker_est1434@home.of.loden pants, made of loden. Boiled wool.
@daleofnorway sweater. Made of Norwegian wool.
@peakperformance merino base zip LS and merino SJ
@raumacollection hat, made of Norwegian wool.
In a few days I’ll tell you about my surprising experience skiing in loden pants, made of wool. They’re cool.

On this day, February 13, 54 years ago, Francisco “Paquito” Fernández-Ochoa, a friendly 21-year-old from Cercedilla (Madrid), won the gold medal in slalom at the Olympic Games held in Sapporo (Japan).
With this feat, “Paquito” became the first Spaniard to win an Olympic gold medal, both in the winter and summer games.
He was joined on the podium by the great @gustavthoeni and his cousin Roland (+), which makes his feat even more remarkable.

Today, February 9th, this cheerful skier, my father, would have turned 99 years old.
He taught me to ski and instilled in me a love for skiing. Happy birthday dad!!!
