In honor of Black Burlesque day, I wanna share one the highest highlights of my 22 years.
In 2019, I got the honor to present Simon de la Getto Teresa R. Ellis with a Sassy Lassy for her contributions to burlesque. For those who don't know, she is the founder of Harlem Shake Burlesque based out of Oakland and winners of best troup is 2004 on the goat farm. Tired of being the token, she founded the first all Black Burlesque troup of the neo movement. I got to share a stage with this brilliant vivacious human for several years, even coaxing her out of retirement a few times. She's electric and her energy is like no other. She is mesmerizing.
That year I made sure all the Black burlesquers we ran into saw her face and knew her name. But most importantly, I got to introduce her to Mama Toni Elling.

She saw something in me I didnt know was there. She always saw and still sees bigger better and brighter things in me than I do. She has encouraged and cheered me on in so many ways. I'm eternally grateful for her presence in my life. My love for her knows no bounds.

I know I don't post often. The world is an inferno, so we find the light where we can. This one right here is a beacon. And I'm having a schmoopy moment. Tho we're spending today a part, we love everyday. We meet each other with love and compassion regardless of where we are on the rollercoaster of life and feelings. They has survived 2 of my family reunions. The family I have built and that we have built together keeps my cup overflowing even when I'm at empty.
