the last few weeks have been filled back to back with moving, creating, and connectingāin every nourishing (and occasionally tiring) way. as soon as Will and I moved to Chicago (literally our 3rd car-full road trip this year), I got the opportunity to join my beloved cousin @almostmemory at @oxbowschoolofart for a weeklong residency overlooking the sand dunes of Michigan. after being knee-deep in garment making for quite some time, this kicked off a refreshing period of experimentation with textiles and other exciting mediums.
1. our last night at ox-bow, hosting an open studio visit to share our installations with the rest of the artist & writer group (shoutout to all the talented folks we met but especially @noelpquinones for gifting us this polaroid š)
2. Mico installing our work (!!)
3. closeup of WIP printing on textiles. I enjoyed playing with fabric printing & manipulation throughout the week
4. hand sculpted and welded furniture made by yours truly (feat. my @lizziedesignstudio #bellatop size S/36 with 1.5ā removed from the bodice length + zipper)ā¦
5. ā¦specifically designed in mind to match our new MCM seating
6. sorry Iām just obsessed w this lamp
7. adding to the warmth of our light-filled apartment⦠a new mini mobile from an @enidforyou workshop by the lovely @self.img this was so much fun!! can you tell Iām really into our couch color palette
8. last but not least, the #belladress for my close friendās coastal farm wedding in California. this is the same size, S/36, with the bodice length shortened again and the skirt shortened by 1.5ā. I also ended up taking in the darts by another 0.5ā each (2ā total removed from waist) bc my final fabric had a bit more give than my toile fabric and I didnāt like how the gathering got pulled down below my waist from the weight of the skirt. one note for the dress view is that if you omit the sleeves, the hem finish at the armscye is a slightly different shape than the top sleevesā hem, so I trimmed back the dress armscye edges to match the topās sleeve hem. I personally prefer how the shorter sleeve looks!

Today it feels even more important to share Here to Stay: Poetry and Prose from the Undocumented Diaspora by @chelo_castillo88@landscapewithj9 and @estherwslin and edited by @undocupoets - and a HUGE thank you to @harperperennial for sending me this ARC! I am incredibly grateful š
ā¢
A lush tapestry of poetry and prose, Here to Stay is an invitation to engage with a new field of contemporary American poetry. From the indomitable writers and activists Janine Joseph, Esther Lin, and Marcelo Hernandez Castillo comes an anthology gathering some of the best work from currently and formerly undocumented poets, as well as poets from mixed status families from across the undocumented diaspora in America. Here to Stay is a collection of honest, searing, and evocative poems interspersed with short personal narratives. Deeply intimate, these works explore how to exist in the space between the familiar and the unknown, between the safety of silence and the desire to share. Highlighting the significant insights of undocumented poets, this brilliant compendium challenges misconceptions of what it means to live and write as an undocumented person in modern America. Beautiful, poignant, and timely, this must-read collection is a rich and essential new chapter in the ongoing story of the eclectic immigrant experience and the United States itself.

We are excited to share that Mico Astrid & P.C. Verrone will be joining us this October as Fall Residents.
Micoās debut memoir, Askal, is a surreal assemblage of memories & pseudo-memories taken from personal, generational, & Philippine-American histories. Through this accounting of inherited grief, Askal calls for a world where these destructive histories do not repeat.
P.C. will be working on his novel āTar-Baby,ā a contemporary reimagining of the Brāer Rabbit folktale in which the mysterious appearance of a young Black woman becomes the centerpiece of a political battle over a gentrified Midwestern neighborhood.
We also want to highlight the work of our finalists.
Angelique is working on a book of essays about the American dream narrative, the bootstrapping myth, and the dangerous perceptions of poverty we continue to perpetuate from both sides of the poverty line.
Samanazās YA Dark Fantasy project, Paresthesia, is an anthology of seven interlinked stories that journeys the magical land of Iran and six of its age-old provinces, discovering their culture, language, traditions, and, most importantly, their myth, lore, and fantasy.
Still so thrilled and honored that Mico and Christian trusted me in making their wedding cake earlier this month, thank you for believing in my vision and allowing me to be a part of such a momentous occasion āØš¤āØ

š¤ What is staged reading?
š” Different from a full production, a staged reading comes with minimal staging and props, and the focus is placed on the powerful words and performances.
š¤ Will I see the same stories in "In Between - Staged Reading" and "In Between"?
š” No, they are two different performances with distinct stories and actors.
