Iva initially wanted only two songs tattooed, and we even had a prior phone consultation as she was nervous about the appointment. But as you can see, the nerves vanished with the first tattoo we did. 🧚♀️
Now, 3 years later, we’ve started a second sleeve project… we’re good friends now and she’s my apprentice.

We are so proud and pleased to share it.
This song has been transforming for us in many ways. Once we wrote it, we felt the pull of it and knew, this is the first stone to our sound and this journey. This song couldn’t be more personal and honest, hence it needed to be the first one out.
It has been a huge pleasure to create this song alongside some exceptionally talented people. We’d like to thank all of them, and also to thank every person who has supported, encouraged and advised us in order to get to this point. From Song To Skin The Magnetic Fields - The Book of Love
The last tattoo done in Melbourne for dear Alex. This is the second song project we’ve done together, the first was Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen back in London. I felt very honoured to tattoo two songs that are deeply important to me. Alex gave me full freedom to illustrate them, even though his knowledge and understanding of these songs is profound and deep. We had brilliant conversations about music, love, and life.
My understanding of love, and this song The Book of Love, inspired me to capture the paradox within the lyrics: “The book of love is long and boring / No one can lift the damn thing.”That’s why I chose to draw just a single piece of paper torn out of the “big book”, to symbolise what love actually is. Not something heavy and impossible to carry, but something simple, light and personal, something that could fit within one piece of paper. Love is when you sing to me..
The winged hearted key feels to me like the secret of love is simple and straightforward, it requires lightness and openness. The moon phases carry the quiet rhythm of change, of becoming, of endings that still hold beauty. And the soft magic drifting out of the paper is everything that cannot be explained or contained inside the “big book”, the invisible feeling that makes love light enough to carry.
The second slide contains photos that created the feeling and space to hold this song, and the third slide shows drawings that inspired my vision. (Photos are from the internet, DM for credits.)
This song was performed by my dear friends at my wedding. As life has taken me through its lessons and along my path of truth, I parted ways with my ex-husband and went on our honeymoon alone, which was both empowering and cathartic. Australia has always been my biggest dream, and I found it profoundly healing and symbolic to create this From Song To Skin piece during my first week in Melbourne. The song gained an entirely new meaning for me, it now carries the art of letting go while still believing in true love.

Leaning how to allow life to bring me what’s truly meant for me, letting my creativity flow without judgement and stripping down the labels that no longer serve my art and myself, staying in the light and the truth.
