A young woman, overwhelmed by financial pressure and mounting debt, applies for a vague AI training job that requires her to submit a "TikTok-style" video showcasing her personality. What begins as a routine application quickly unravels into a destabilizing performance of self. She studies other people's curated personas, attempts a restrained professional version of herself, and rejects it almost immediately. In its place, she constructs something louder, stranger and more desperate, layering on exaggerated makeup, forcing energy, and pushing herself into a version of confidence that borders on erratic. Her final submission is not polished or composed, but overproduced and unstable, a performance stretched to its breaking point. She submits it anyway. On the other end in an anonymous room, her video joins a growing archive of similar files, each labeled, downloaded, and opened without context. There is no job, no evaluation, no system beyond the illusion of one. As her video plays back detached from her intent, it becomes clear it was never meant to be seen in the way she imagined. The film exposes a predatory reality beneath the promise of opportunity, where visibility is exploited, performance is extracted, and the person behind it is irrelevant.

I’ve been exploring what’s possible with these giant new windows.
Almost all my work has been made with studio lighting and I’ve always composed things thinking about how it looks when someone is just sitting by a window.
We’re still getting very bright days and I’m interested to see how the feeling of these portraits will change as the seasons change. We’re all hoping winter won’t be too gloomy, but I’m really really hoping I can keep working these portraits into my practice.
At the moment I’m offering this to people who want to spend a bit of time experimenting with something unique during their session. It is definitely a dance as we move with where the light goes and improvise to find new possibilities.
Samhain is a cat you may remember me posting about last month—after he seemingly spontaneously decided he was friendly after living outside for years. We were so happy to bring him in, simply because he’s a fluffy teddy bear cat and utterly lovable! When we found out he has grade 3-4 dental disease, his decision to come in made even more sense. He needed help ❤️🩹
On the last slide, you’ll see a video his foster captured that shows how painful it can be for Samhain to eat due to his bad teeth. Warning: this is hard to watch.
We are fundraising to cover the cost of dental surgery, so that Samhain can live pain-free as he deserves. We hope that this will also make it easier for someone to adopt him — he is an absolute teddy bear and will be an amazing companion for someone.

Last fall, we said goodbye to my grandma Judy, and this month we celebrated her birthday. She was a fairytale-perfect grandmother. Incredibly kind and generous, beloved by everyone who knew her. A great cook, talented knitter and spinner, animal lover, wonderful storyteller and operatic whistler. Beautiful inside and out. Words really can’t do her justice. We miss you so much GranSue. I’ll always think fireworks in July are for you!
Samhain is six years old and just made the best decision of his life 🖤 @allisonwick_ and I TNRed this boy back in March, and at the time he showed no interest in us or in coming inside. But then, his behavior started to change. He started venturing all the way up to Ally’s back door when he was ready for mealtimes. Then he began allowing his caretakers to pet him—and even climbing up on top of them! We got the message: this guy was ready to come inside. As soon as we had the fostering resources available, we opened that door and welcomed him in for good.
His glow-up has commenced: he’s being treated for parasites and got his vaccine updates today. Samhain’s caretakers had noticed he showed signs of pain on the left side of his mouth, and sure enough, he has grade 3 dental disease, so we will be fundraising for surgery to get his mouth fixed up. Also at @parkslopevet today, we found out that he has feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), which makes us extra glad he’s inside: diseases and health risks abound for outdoor cats, but as an indoor cat with loving human care and regular vet visits, he’s much more likely to live happily and healthfully for years to come.
