Xylomedical Manual (Philly) is a book of 16 stories told to me by people that I encountered in Philadelphia. Over the course of 3 happenings the public was invited to share a narrative, a memory or a feeling with me. Over the course of 30 minutes the storyteller and I would co-create a small composition which encapsulates their tale. This piece has been acquired by the Museum for Art in Wood and is on view there until mid October. Thank you to everyone who shared their story with me, including @melisserrose @obliqua_madera @hollyelisg @sorensonkatie @burcu.okuda @ohhanabear @chrishammer1971 @bay.bodyofwater Thanks to all of the staff and now friends from the Museum and Nextfab! Thanks to all of my fellow residents @blonder.than.necessary @asssemkamal @ardn_cloud @edgarorlaineta @av_klara and Holly for inspiring me and teaching me. Special thanks to Asem for helping me record the video and audio for this clip, as well as many other bits and pieces. Thanks to everyone who came to the opening to support this exhibition and the museum!

🔊 Sound on! . This wooden conveyor belt is the final element of the commission that I've taken a year and a half to complete. 600 individual pieces of 15 different species of wood in this one part alone. The colours and marks in the woods are the results of fungi partially digesting them. Photos of the final installation to follow soon. . 📹 @heidi_fourie . . . . . . . #woodsculpture #asmrwood #woodasmr #kineticsculpture #creak #joineryporn #woodporn

Cedar Social Spanner. This ladder-like contraption allows two people to stand across from one another, clasping arms, having a face-to-face connection. The Eastern Red Cedar trunk is imbued with aromatic oils that keep away bad feelings and prevent decay. . Ladders are associated with shamanic power in cultures accross the globe. They connect the realm of spirit to the realm of the mundane. . Made of driftwood collected from the Delaware. . On view at @museumforartinwood until 26 October. . Images 1,4 ©@erin.nicole.redman . Ek en Angie en Anika geniet hierdie avonture vreeslik, much love to the people who have shared feedback on the first 4 episodes. #taalgenootklankbaan

To round off the story of my residency, here are some installation shots of the Xylomedical Manual (Philly). I love how it transforms as you move around it, and as various pages open and turn. . @museumforartinwood . Images ©Museum for Art in Wood. Photos by John Carlano

Xylomantis in Flight. This was the final work that I made on my residency in the US. I had some spalted driftwood that reminded me of clouds, and this piece emerged as an expression of my elation at having spent 2 months working towards an exhibition that I was extremely proud of and grateful to have had. Happily this piece was acquired by a collector in Philadelphia and will live where it was born. . All images ©Museum for Art in Wood. Photo: John Carlano. . @museumforartinwood
