It was quite funny trying to find a cover photo in our live where we weren’t both pulling silly faces. Thank you @sheena_byrom for this insightful and important chat around Midwife lead births. Thank you for being such a renegade. Pregnant women, new mums, babies and midwives owe you a lot. Never stop pestering me. I’m never wilfully ignoring you, my life‘s just quite full on. Love u and well done . Shoutout to my brilliant co author on Birthing @midwifemarley and to @tessaclemsonyoga@the_practising_midwife_journal @the_student_midwife_journal @all4maternity

🖤 IMPACT 🖤 How much of an impact can photography and poetry truly have? Perhaps this is a valid question, however creativity at its best has the potential to create such waves of change. Images and words have the power to incite such feeling. And storytelling - well that is truly powerful and allows people to truly connect. I wanted to take a moment to share some feedback following the release of the video that I have received - showing how this has had an impact for midwives and student midwives alike. I will try share some of this on my stories but to summarise - it has reignited a love for midwifery at a time when we see so much negative press, and despite the challenges and difficulty we face. It has helped midwives fall back in love with the profession and remind them of our why - why did we decide to train as a midwife. It’s given midwives a boost! - a reminder of why we stay in the profession, the beautiful parts of our job and helped midwives to feel proud of their incredible work. It has helped midwives to feel seen and heard. Emotive, moving, spoke our thoughts, beautiful, heartfelt, powerful, pride, reality, passion, dedication. That’s a lot of feeling! And I for one am incredibly proud to work alongside such incredible colleagues - we witness what women are capable of every day (what an incredible thing!) - we are there for that - but I also see what you are capable of every day too 🖤 So thank you - for allowing me to share this and tell the story of what it means to be a midwife right now. I am excited about where this project continues to lead 🖤 #midwiveswork #midwivesmatter #powerofstorytelling #powerofphotography #spokenwordpoetry

🖤 Busy hands 🖤 As I set out to capture and showcase how hard my midwifery colleagues work I noticed how incredibly busy our hands are all the time. It is a beautiful thing to behold -from answering calls and bleeps to preparing medication and being able to feel the position a baby is laying in - what pure magic ✨ #midwiveswork #busyhands #midwivesmakeadifference #midwivesmatter

LOOK AT THESE HAPPY MIDWIVES! On the International Day of the Midwife this year the Midwifery Unit Network - led by @luciabirthcentres spent time at Hull maternity services supporting the midwifery team to implement the Midwifery Unit Standards via the MUSA framework. This involves looking at ways midwives and staff can optimise the use of their birth centre, and support continuous improvement. This work is also connected to wider regional work done in partnership with Tracey Cooper and NHS England. If anyone interested in implementing MUSA framework in their unit to focus on continuous improvement and to increase use of their midwifery units they can contact the team via [email protected] If you want to learn more about the evidence-base relating to midwifery-units (birth centres) then head to our bio to access this month’s issue of TPM! Co-edited by Lucia, the issue is focused on the implementation and sustainability of midwifery units and its OPEN ACCESS! #MidwiferyLedCare #midwives #MidwiferyLedUnits
