Alina Yklymova ist Regisseurin und Drehbuchautorin und studiert seit 2017 szenische Regie an der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, wo sie ihr Studium derzeit mit ihrem Langfilmdebüt abschließt.
Durch ihr langjähriges Studium und ihre Arbeit in Baden-Württemberg kennt sie die Potenziale des Südwestens ebenso wie die strukturellen Lücken. Ihre Perspektive verbindet künstlerische Praxis mit konkreter Erfahrung der Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen für junge Kreative in der Region.

Hey, I’m Alina Yklymova. I wrote and directed Matröshki. It’s my first feature-length film.
I’ve carried this film with me for a long time and soon I’ll finally share it with you. It’s personal and it holds on to a question that won’t let go of me: how do you survive in this world?
For me the answer is community. It carries you and it demands a lot and it hurts. The title provokes especially now and that’s exactly why it stays.
Matröshki apologizes for nothing and it sugarcoats nothing. It looks straight at things and it leaves room for humor. Whether it works is up to you.

In December 2022, Lion and I started writing MATRÖSHKI.
In June 2023, Stefanie Groß placed her trust in us – and laid the foundation:
MATRÖSHKI would become part of the SWR DEBÜT IM DRITTEN program.
A lot has happened since then. Highs. Doubts. Nights without sleep.
We let go of characters. Rewrote them. Brought them back.
But one thing was clear from the very beginning:
These three and a half women were alive.
They spoke to us, overwhelmed us, refused to cooperate.
We’re not writing about them.
We’re writing with them.
Since then, more support has come on board:
Schiwagofilm, Jan Berning from SWR, Andrea Hanke from WDR,
MFG and Hessenfilm –
all of them believe in these women,
and in the story they have to tell.
And now – almost two years later – they are here.
Three generations. Three bodies. Three and a half truths.
Soon, they will speak.
And we’ll be listening.
