Knee Stretches ❤️
Love them or hate them, these are a key part of the Pilates system and so powerful!
Some key notes on knee stretches: 🥰
1. Traditionally we work through round back, flat back and knees off (sometimes single leg too!)
2. Focus on the upper body being strong and stationery and the lower body being the driver
3. Ensure you prioritise the pull in of the carriage as much as the push out
4. Breath and pace is imperative!
Knee stretches: the biomechanics, how to teach, how to modify and how to program them are all taught at Reformer Teacher Training (and the Contrology Masterclass!)
Enrolment for June 2026 is now open with limited spaces.
48 hours of total learning over 3 weekends - available in studio and online 💻
Over 100+ exercises and variations to make you an educated and well rounded teacher
You will experience: classical repertoire, contemporary choreography, practise teaching and sequencing, hands on cueing techniques, modifications for injury, programming + much more! ♥️
Comment reformer and I’ll send you some more information x
A signature element of a Vicalates class is discovering classical work in modern ways 🩷
A Pilates class should always teach you technique and principles (like breath, alignment, coordination and control) but also teach you Pilates!
This doesn’t mean repeating the same exercises day in and day out in the same way, but having skilled teachers who teach you skills and repertoire in different ways to challenge and excite you.
This plank variation lets you explore elements of snake without actually doing snake, but preps you, challenges you and lets you play in movement.
If you’re wanting to become an expert Pilates teacher that feels confident to adapt exercises and program flows that keeps clients coming back - then we’ll see you at Reformer Teacher Training.

If you’ve ever been taught by me, I can guarantee I’ve taught you at least once on the short box. Anybody who knows me knows how obsessed I am with the short Box series and there is so many reasons why it is honestly one of the best parts of the repertoire. 🤍
1. Full Body Integration
To perform any of the short Box exercises correctly you have to have complete coordination from the tips of your fingers to tip your toes and I love this for warming up the body as well.
2. Spinal Mobility
The shop box series covers flat back round back rotation and lateral flexion which are all key parts of our bodies movement but also Pilates. I actually love starting a class with the short box to see how my client moves in these planes of motions but also to prep these positions.
3. Core and Breath
The short boxes is also an amazing way to teach correct breathing but also correct abdominal engagement. It supported, there isn’t any spring load that needs to be altered and it allows them to move in a range of motion that is suitable to them.
This exercise lane is probably one of the trickiest and is a lot harder than it looks. But the more you do it trust me the more you’re fall in love with it and the more you teach it the more confident you’ll get tactile and verbally queueing it.
The show box series or something we deep dive and spend lots of time unpacking in our Reformer teacher training which is coming up in June 💕🫶🏽

Breathing on the Cadillac ♥️
If you’ve ever worked on the Cadillac with me, I can guarantee you that I have taught you either Joe or Corolla‘s breathing most likely both!
I absolutely adore these exercises and even though traditionally they are something that you would end your practice with I often choose to begin the practice with them as they find they are amazing for breath (obvi), full body integration coordination and for prepping for bigger shapes such as bridging and of course as we see here, teaser!
There’s also lots of fun ways to change up the variations play with the order, patterns etc to keep things fresh for you and your client.
Teaching across the apparatus allows you to have a greater depth in your teaching but also allows for your clients to feel the Pilates system even deeper.
Comment apparatus and I’ll send you all the details for our upcoming apparatus teacher training beginning in July of this year. It’s available in studio and also online globally ♥️♥️
