Congratulations to artist, Jenna Sutela @jennasutela , curator and SI Director, Stefanie Hessler @steffihessler , and assistant curator and SI Chief Curator Alison Coplan @alicopes on the incredible Aeolian Suite at the Pavilion of Finland as part of the 61st Biennale di Venezia @labiennale . 🌬️✨ “Aeolian Suite by Jenna Sutela, curated by Stefanie Hessler, transforms the Pavilion of Finland into an immersive soundscape that animates the elemental forces of Venetian winds to explore their environmental, cultural, and emotional dimensions. The exhibition features five sonic-kinetic sculptures installed in a circle, like a medieval wind rose diagram. The sculptures are covered in soft, fuzzy wigs that reference the wind muffs used on microphones. Here, instead of blocking out wind sounds, they become vessels for it, channeling the whispers and songs of wind while inviting us to reflect on what we consider noise and how we relate to our natural and cultural environment.” The 61st Biennale di Venezia runs from May 9–November 22, 2026, with preview days May 5–8. Studio: Vanda Skácalová & Beth von Undall @vandaska_ @spleeding

Jiajia Zhang: Domestic News Opening Reception: Wednesday, April 29 at 6pm Join us on Wednesday, April 29 for the opening of Domestic News, the first institutional solo exhibition in the US by artist Jiajia Zhang (@jiajiahefei ). Centered on a newly commissioned five-channel video installation, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a rounded mirror chamber that stages a prismatic view of contemporary Shanghai. Through moving image, sound, and architectural elements, Zhang traces the circulations of a city tasked with staging the ambitions and contradictions of modern China, examining how spectacle, infrastructure, and everyday life move through the urban systems that sustain the contemporary metropolis. On the occasion of the exhibition, SI will present a screening and conversation with Zhang and Aurelia Guo on May 1. Domestic News is made possible through support from Zürcher Filmstiftung, rossogranada (@rossogranada ), Every Page Foundation (@everypagefound ), Ernst and Olga Gubler-Hablützel Foundation, Ernst Göhner Stiftung, and UBS Kulturstiftung. The exhibition is curated by Alison Coplan (@alicopes ), Chief Curator.  On view through July 5, 2026. Image: Jiajia Zhang, Self-portrait with mirrors, 2016/2026. SoiL Thornton: Metabolizing eviction try, work_mp3 and other games of topping Opening Reception: Wednesday, April 29 at 6pm Join us on Wednesday, April 29 for the opening of Metabolizing eviction try, work_mp3 and other games of topping, the first institutional solo exhibition by artist SoiL Thornton (@____s_0_i_l ) in New York City, where they live and work. Crossing boundaries of media, Thornton’s work grapples with identity, systems of order, and regulative apparatuses. “Topping” implies relations of control and power, which unfold here in the dynamics and negotiations between artist and curator, artist and institution, artist and city, as well as between the artist, their peers, and their own artistic production. It is both a method and a condition. Within this framework, meaning is broken down, processed, and transformed through lived circumstances shaped by precarious systems. The exhibition thus traces the fragile entanglements of life, labor, health, and property, reflecting on what can be made and upheld in their wake.  On the occasion of the exhibition, SI will present a performance by Violence on June 11 and an event with Hard to Read (date forthcoming). Metabolizing eviction try, work_mp3 and other games of topping is made possible through support from Every Page Foundation (@everypagefound ), and Paul Judelson (@pjudelson ). The exhibition is curated by Alison Coplan (@alicopes ), Chief Curator.  On view through July 5, 2026. Book Launch and Conversation | Nula with Irena Haiduk and Blakey Bessire Wednesday, February 11 at 7 PM Join us for a Valentine’s celebration to mark the release of NULA. On the occasion of the book launch, writers Irena Haiduk (@irena.haiduk ) and Blakey Bessire (@bblakeybb ) will be joined by SI Chief Curator Alison Coplan (@alicopes ) for a conversation and reading. 🏹 💕 As the curse of war disfigures all, a family of three women, an illustrator, a statistician, and a teenager, transform into a forger, a prostitute, and bait. All lairs and smuggling tunnels lead to Nula, a prop cleaner at the otherworldly Cabaret Économique, where the dead state, police, and criminal gangs are faced by art and love. Fear dissolves all distinctions. Written by Irena Haiduk and Blakey Bessire following Haiduk’s 2020 exhibition at Swiss Institute, New York, Nula’s edges seep into the shadows we cast, tonight and every night. Please RSVP to [email protected]. NULA Edited by Alison Coplan, Laura McLean-Ferris (@lmcleanferris ) Text by Irena Haiduk, Blakey Bessire Published by Swiss Institute/METER Hardcover, 7.5 x 10.5 in. / 208 pgs / 2 color / 24 bw. Congratulations to Shuang Li (@shuangbot ) on the release of her new book, I’m Not, published by SI with Aspen Art Museum (@aspenartmuseum ) and Pacific (@pacific_pacific ). We’re excited to share that it is now available for purchase on our webstore (linked in bio) and at do you read me?! NYC (@doyoureadme_nyc ). 🎀 🤍 Shuang Li is an artist who inhabits distances with curiosity. The gaps and expanses between people and things, between words and their intended recipients, are vital territories for Li, ones in which wishes, fears, truths, and projections are cast into unknowable trajectories. Through newly commissioned essays, interviews and artist interventions, Li’s first monograph, I’m Not, examines how love remains an overriding sentiment across her work, which tells stories of ceaseless yearnings for connection. The things we cannot say, the places we cannot go, the people we cannot see: all of this negation intensifies human life. Edited with introduction by Alison Coplan (@alicopes ), Daniel Merritt (@danielmerritt ). Text by Hanlu Zhang (@hanluzhang ), Jeppe Ugelvig (@jeppeugelvig ), Olivia Kan-Sperling (@dianadiagram ). Interview by Sophia Al-Maria (@sxphix_xl_mxrix ). Publisher: Swiss Institute/Aspen Art Museum/Pacific Book Format: Hardcover, 8.5 x 11 in. / 208 pgs / 165 color Distribution: D.A.P.
