meet jake! osmosis co-founder SWIM (someone who isn’t me) has been curating and promoting events across portland since 2018.
…
a veteran of the drug wars, he explores the interplay between psychedelic sound, substance, and environment. when not on the dancefloor, he can be found crate-digging, foraging in oregon’s wild places, or tending to his licensed psilocybin practice.
When the staff at Ming Lounge asked us at Osmosis to organize a fundraiser to generate proceeds for a new mural we said HELL YES. The Ming has become a community hub for mind blowing events and freaks of every variety over the last few years. Let’s band together and help give back to them after everything they have given to the local underground scene!

For several years now I have had the pleasure of being part of a film project masterminded by my good friend / evil genius @fosterhunting . The movie follows my wanderings across the west, from Washington to Mexico, in search of the noble barn owl and its vomit - drinking beer, sleeping rough, trespassing, and crawling through shit splattered barns, all to try and scrounge up a few honest bucks without giving in to the pressure of getting a Real Job (so-called). Join me and other Notable Degenerates like @jgsour and @timothytickle on this strange journey by supporting the Kickstarter (link in my profile). The movie is shot, edited and ready to distribute. Foster just needs money to license two songs. First ten minutes of the film are on the Kickstarter page to view NOW. (Also some sick merch).
My very first published paper came out in the journal Psychedelic Press this fall, and I just uploaded it to Academia! I adapted the paper from a talk I gave at the inaugural Occulture conference in Berlin back in 2018. The subject matter is a little specialized, but if you find powerful hallucinogenic compounds, theatrical spirit summoning rituals, and mysterious secret societies interesting, you just might enjoy it.
Many thanks to Rob Dickins and Nikki Wyrd for their editorial assistance, and for giving me the opportunity to publish. Additional thanks to Giorgia and Dax and everyone else at Occulture for creating a space where this type of research can be shared with a knowledgeable and curious community.
