For World Art Day, we’re reflecting on some of the iconic moments and collaborators we’ve worked with over the years.
We’re honoured to have created and supported work that fosters connection, sparks dialogue, and strengthens community.♥️
Fountain Of Love Mural, just unveiled in Cincinatti, commissioned by to celebrate 10 years of marriage equality in the US. Thanks to @artworkscincy for the wonderful project. Jim Obergefell was also involved, and once lived steps away from the mural’s location. His civil case to marry his partner John Arthur 10 years ago is what prompted marriage equality in the US on a federal level.
The five couples in the mural represent the five couples who married at Fountain Square in Cincinnati as soon as Obergefell v. Hodges passed in 2015. When I researched queer couples getting married for inspiration, I was struck by the vibrant and fully embodied styles I encountered, and so of course, the couples are fabulous.
Art is a powerful tool of communication, and it’s my honour to commemorate a chapter of civil action that’s had a massively positive impact on the queer community. I hope Fountain of Love marks where we have come from, and lights the path forward. Now is the time to stand up to darkness with love, connection, and joy
There is a "Fountain of Love" pouring through @overtherhine_otr with @artworkscincy 's newest mural hitting the walls of the Mercer Commons garage (5 Mercer Street, OTR)!
The mural commemorates the 10th anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges, the historic U.S. Supreme Court ruling that secured marriage equality nationwide. Located just steps away from the former home of Cincinnatians Jim Obergefell and his late husband John Arthur, whose love story and legal fight shaped a pivotal moment in American civil rights history, the artwork is both a tribute and a beacon of progress.
