This past Saturday, BCA and Alethea Pace held a workshop at Lehman College’s Bronx Parks Speak Up event.
Alethea presented a reflective workshop exploring the relationship of the attendees with the Harlem River through memory, movement, writing, and storytelling. “Listening With: Harlem River” invited attendees to slow down and attune to the river—not just as a body of water, but as a living being with wisdom, agency, and its own story to tell.
Grounded in the principles of the Rights of Nature movement, this session invited attendees to consider the Harlem River not as a resource to be used, but as a relative, a witness, a neighbor, and a carrier of histories.
Join Alethea Pace, at the Pregones Theater on April 26 for the culmination of her artist residency, featuring a short film, new performance work (Is Not Yet), and a panel exploring storytelling through law, science, organizing, and art. The presentation builds on the ongoing community and educational initiative Listening With: Harlem River, which grew out of last summer’s teen workshop. RSVP details in our bio!
