One of the reasons why this story was kept in the backlog of my wishlists was the difficulty in finding someone to play the counterpart and I have very complex preferences for this role. It wasn't until one project ago, when @sinemacult brought Chan Teik Quan and I together on screen, I was moved by how seamless we both got into the zone, and I'm not a professional let alone to work with a then-stranger. I started writing the script only after he got onboard and with his insights, we gradually built the characters’ universe as we go, figuring out how to slow dance included. The efficiency was different when you're both a director and a writer. Chan blew me away on set as the one that got away in the story and I was beyond grateful to him for everything he put into this impulsively random but beautiful collaboration. Such a wonderful person to have on and off screen, apparently the sweetest too, few times caught in the bts making sure I look alright. This film is indeed meaningful to me but it means so much more to work with a person who understands that deeply, so thank you @chanteikquan for saying yes to this fictional world of what could've been. The soundtrack of my latest short film is beautifully written, composed and performed by a good friend of mine, @sashaningkan 🤍 I've been such a fan of Sasha not only because of the songbird she is, she always puts her heart and soul into her lyrics and I'm beyond elated to be among the first to listen to her recently completed song called 'Terang Bulan'. She holds a Master’s in Film Studies from the University of Kent, with research focusing on the films of Dain Said. Currently at ANAABU, she writes campaign stories and develops original content including podcasts and editorial series featuring creatives such as Shi Han, Ahmad Faris, Jared Lee, and Pamela Tan. Beyond marketing, Alee is also an aspiring moderator and filmmaker. She has hosted film discussions with figures like Nik Amir and Ali Agung, while actively engaging with Malaysia’s independent film scene. Her directing works include several short films and the TAPAUtv web series Kau Memang Special Tapi Dia Double Cheese. Her latest short film, The Price I Pay For Hurting God‘s Favourite, is currently preparing for festival submissions. Time, on the other hand, often demands that love must act, forcing decisions that alter the course of life forever. Fate, is another different story. We often find ourselves wishing that timelines of possibilities could overlap, granting us the choice to switch time and explore different decisions where we see fit. This is the fragment of Orked-inspired story I find resonate with. A fragment that explores a "what if" as a threshold of intangible forces we don't fully understand but desperately want to believe in, all presented in the font of Yasmin.
