Aston Barrett, what an incredible sense of feel on the bass - tried to do it as much justice as I could here on “I Shot the Sheriff” off The Wailers 1973 album Burnin’. I personally love that the bass on the track is just ever so slightly outta tune and tried to keep that vibe going here. Coulda compressed the bass a bit more in mixing but it is what it is!

New early 70s fender jazz bass build
@cwinnstrings really knocked it outta the park with the finally assembly and setup on this jazz bass - He was able to get the action insanely low and did some magic with shielding the pickups. I think this may be my new #1!
It consists of:
- a late 90’s MIJ Geddy Lee neck (with a few coats of aged nitro to capture that early 70s fender headstock shade)
- a super cool metallic green/blue @mjtagedguitars body
- @curtis_novak_pickups jazz bass pickups.
-all @fender hardware
- @wdmusicproductsofficial pickguard
It sounds and plays better than most vintage jazz basses I’ve encountered and all-in was a fraction of the price
A few scenes from the past week or so in the Midwest with @ilovehonkytonk . It’s been an absolute blast being on the road with JP and the band this spring and summer. We covered so many miles!

It’s been an absolute treat to be overseas and to play with such incredible talent (@nick.larimore@samleighton@sam.talmadge@harrybohay ) but my eyes definitely show I’ve been on the road for 6+ weeks.
I’ll be back stateside in a couple days for some much needed rest, quality time with my girlfriend, and real Mexican food before heading out again with JP for an east coast run at the end of June.
Anyways, I’m always grateful that I get to do this as a job and cannot wait to see how the rest of my year pans out!
