Here’s a clip from the video for Love As a Weapon! Shot last summer in Amsterdam with director @pasqualdominic . And thank you to the complete stranger who took us out on his boat through the canals for extra footage.

Michael, For almost 19 years I’ve been struggling to get away from you. But you kept pulling me in with your Burnaby boy charm, your excessive dim sum ordering, your unhealthy relationship with competition and your colorful embroidery of a simple story. But tonight, I get away. I turn to ice and use all your warmth to escape. The second time we met, you told a tale of bringing the American songbook to stadiums. You told me days after meeting Lu that you were going to marry her. And you told my parents in April, 2003 that you and I would know each other our whole lives. You’re a man of your word and show tremendous potential as a cult leader. In Montreal in 2003, after I counted off “Moondance” way too slow on live TV, you stopped the song, took the blame and counted it off where you wanted it. Anyone else would have handed me a crossword puzzle and a middle seat home. Not only did you stick with me but you constantly provided me with opportunity after opportunity whether I was ready for them or not. We crammed so much into 19 years. From jazz clubs, to theaters to arenas and stadiums. Oprah, SNL, Wetten Dass, X Factor, Idol, Letterman and so many other appearences. The Christmas cave meme was obviously made by someone who has no idea how hard you, your band and crew work. For how often we missed a friend’s wedding, or a brother’s graduation or missed simply being home for someone we loved. I hope that meme crawls back into it’s cave and dies. (But go to Michael’s merch store to buy the t-shirt) I thank you for your loyalty, your friendship, teaching me the importance of integrity and for always making me feel like a partner.
I love you, my friend.

P.S. Always remember; lose a fan, gain two.
HALF-AMERICAN
It’s funny how innocent this phrase sounds when you’re young. I bet those little ICE twats use it all the time. White=American. “So you’re half-Chinese and half-American?” That’s what I got all the time growing up. The innocent ignorance of white kids.
So here’s a little song about it. A reharm of the national anthem. Half me/half that stupid ass song

WICKEDLY
Reimagining the music from the musical: Wicked
Here it is. My first jazz trio album at the age of 45. Worth the wait? Was anybody waiting?
Piano, bass and drums is my favorite of the combinations. Everyone knows their role. It’s like a married couple in the 1950s/2030s. The drums and bass merely are in a support role. The piano is bringing home the bacon and an air of self-importance.
I had a trio project in 2001 with Erik Kertes where we messed with the chords and the feel of Disney songs. Twenty four years later I find myself still wanting to mess with songs. Melody and Lyrics’ are protected by copyright. But harmony has always been the element that makes me swoon. It’s the glue, or the ‘wife’ if you will from a 1950s/2030s household.
Thanks to @timlefev@ryanmcdiarmid_@tylerygraham@paullshill@cianthreetimes@bakerymastering for all their time and contributions. I couldn’t have done it without you. Well, who are we kidding? There’s so much talent in LA, I probably could have done this without you. But I’m sure it would be worse.

Defying Gravity (words and music by Stephen Schwartz)
Here’s a little reimagination of the song Defying Gravity that I did for my album. But instead of my dumb little fingers playing you the melody, I thought it wise to get one of the best singers I know to sing this rather difficult ditty. @laurakgruska
