#Repost @goldsmithsfair ・・・ This week the Goldsmiths’ Company published the report “Acquisitions for The Goldsmiths’ Company Collection 2025”, showing the remarkable series of Company commissions, gifts and purchases made during last year. A selection of the 2025 acquisitions were purchased from makers who have previously exhibited at Goldsmiths’ Fair. The Goldsmiths’ Company has supported excellence, craftsmanship and community ever since it received its first charter in 1327. The Company Collection focuses on British contemporary and antique silver, modern jewellery and art medals. In recent years, the Contemporary Craft Committee has selected many new acquisitions for the Collection from the exhibitors at Goldsmiths’ Fair. These acquisitions support contemporary craft and celebrate the talent of our exhibitors. Head to @thegoldsmithscompany to learn more about the 2025 acquisitions. #supportingcraftspeople #GoldsmithsCompany #acquisitions #companycollection GoldsmithsFair

With the recent acquisition of Alan’s Sol Vase by @thegoldsmithscompany , here’s a little reminder that you can read Alan’s many stories in his book ‘In Search of the Blindingly Obvious’ - available via the link in the bio from You Caxton and The Art Circus publishers. “The Goldsmiths’ Company supports excellence, craftsmanship and skill. Its continuing commitment as a cultural institution working in a living tradition of goldsmiths’ work is demonstrated in its publications and through its acquisitions for the Company Collection. We aim to inspire. Through our objects we tell stories about people: their artistic and technical achievements, their innovative use of new materials and technologies in combination with traditional hand skills, and their connections with our trade and with the Company. Human stories link objects and individuals across centuries and cultures as we build a legacy for the future.” Dr Dora Thornton & Dr Frances Parton

I’m delighted to shared that Sol Vase is now part of the prestigious Contemporary Silver Collection at @thegoldsmithscompany After many years - decades - of taking part in @goldsmithsfair , it’s a huge honour to have this piece added to such an important collection. I’m immensely grateful for their support. #Repost・・・ “The Goldsmiths’ Company supports excellence, craftsmanship and skill. We research it, teach with it, display it, and lend it. The silver is used, and the jewellery is worn within Goldsmiths’ Hall, as an expression of who we are and what we do. To celebrate our 700th anniversary in 2027, we plan to share the Collection online to raise awareness and patronage of our craft and the value of creativity and making, now and in the future.” Dr Dora Thornton & Dr Frances Parton #supportingcraftspeople #GoldsmithsCompany #acquisitions #companycollection

“MY AIM IN WRITING THIS BOOK There are a number of ways in which this possible ‘Last Hurrah’ of a project can be seen, although I did not appreciate this when I started. In other words, I did not know where this book would end up, nor the journey it would take me on. Whoever reads it will get from it what they need and what resonates for them and this will, I hope, be many and varied. It will depend on what stage of life they are in, plus their hopes and aspirations. My project numbers run to 920 and this biggest project of all will increase the total by just one to 921. It will have taken five years to write and compile, however its subject matter will be largely worked from the previous 920.” Alan Craxford In Search of the Blindingly Obvious Order from Art Circus Books - see link in bio. #alancraxford

Alan Craxford ‘In Search of the Blindingly Obvious’ Book launch and a rare opportunity to buy pieces from Alan’s archive collection. 🗓️5-21 December • Tuesday to Saturday 11 - 6 📍Josef Koppmann Gallery Oxo Tower, Unit 1.06 ‘For all the sharp precision Alan brings to his chosen materials – notably through the technique of hand engraving - the ideas and inspirations driving individual pieces are invariably intuitive and allowed to unfold gradually as a theme develops. He writes of the joy of working to commission, of his desire to create something truly individual and meaningful to a patron in order to bring together elements that capture an essence way beyond any given brief. He sees a world of unlimited possibility, with connections and references that range from the profound to the prosaic which he, as designer and maker, conjures into a many-layered whole. He notes a truth seldom expressed when he writes that as a maker ‘one starts with nothing.’ Clare Phillips, V&A
