Meet me on the other side: /photography What had always been a pastime, a balance to my filmmaking career, has, over the past few months, turned into an additional chapter of my professional creative work. I’m still producing and directing films/commercials, still editing freelance; but I’m now also getting hired as a fashion and portrait photographer. And I just had a fantastic exhibition in Manhattan. This is getting serious, and it’s a real blessing. Grateful for every project, every person who’s trusted me with their image. Except that my Nikon would become the door opener, the key to the city’s treasure chest. Where Berlin always felt too unambitious, too little to hold my interest, New York reveals itself in every minute, in all its facets. Every encounter, every corner feels like a story waiting to break loose. It moves through you like feedback from a broken amp: raw, beautiful, impossible to control. Footsteps, concrete, reflections. Heights. A city that edits you while you’re still speaking. This isn’t a portfolio. It’s what’s left after deep dives into the nervous system, the grid, the pulse of the city. Every day I’m overwhelmed again by its authenticity, probably because I recognize myself in it. Everything is constantly in motion. Straight from the press release: FINDING STILLNESS IN A DIGITAL WORLD: #WAY_LAMA TENZING When I first met Lama Tenzing during a research trip years ago, I felt something I couldn’t explain: something still, quiet, and deeply powerful. He had never consciously healed anyone with his energy before, and when I asked if he thought he could, he just smiled and said, “I can try.” Two years later, we returned to Sikkim with a small crew, and with that one sentence still echoing in my mind, we began to film. #WAY_LamaTenzing is not about spectacle. It doesn’t shout. It listens and encourages reflection. We had to battle altitude sickness, shifting weather, and the fragility of navigating a completely different world, with no fallback plan. As filmmakers, we sometimes have the rare privilege of bringing people together. That’s what happened here. And the result, Kamala’s recovery, to the disbelief of local doctors, was not just moving, it was humbling. This film asks you to slow down. To resist the urge for digital clarity or dramatic structure. It’s a quiet act of presence in a world that moves far too fast. It belongs to the larger feature project #WHEREAREYOU, which explores what we lose when we disconnect from each other - while thinking we’re constantly connected. #WAY_LamaTenzing is the beginning of that cycle. ⛪️ Before it was absorbed into New York City in 1898, Brooklyn was the third-largest city in the United States. The consolidation was close, contested, and for many Brooklynites never quite forgiven. Brooklyn Borough Hall is considered one of the oldest surviving public buildings in Brooklyn. The Borough President still sits here, in the same building, a title that carries the echo of something larger it used to be. 🛹 By evening, the suits are gone and the steps are live. Skateboarders have been sessioning this plaza forever, treating the ledges and open ground like they were put there for exactly that reason. Maybe they were. Tempo.🕺🏼 When I travel and shoot abroad, my brain is forced out of autopilot even more than it is at home in New York. It creates a state where decisions are rewritten faster, the nervous system can't rely on old scripts. I'm constantly anchored in the now. Travel breaks the illusion that my current life is the only possible one. Labels weaken: I'm just a person moving through time and space, operating in three time zones at once. Sometimes, one trip can shift directions more than years of thinking ever could. 📸 Portraits like this don't get made, they happen. We are human, we are imperfect. We're full of chaos, and somehow that's exactly what this image holds. Even with all the calmness it radiates. AI can help me plan trips, translate, or stay organized. Even support the retouching process of my pics. But at the end of the day I still have to be in the right place, read the moment, and press the shutter. For me, the beauty of this image lies in its authentic attitude and the questions it raises. It makes you feel like you're right there. Shot in India, 90+ degrees, casually on a morning before a film shoot, with YoYo from JoBurg and a crew representing four different continents.
