We’re honoured to have Olaf Grawert, Adrián Labaut, Ghizlaine Mallek, and Marie Roels as part of the MARCH Awards 2026 jury. Four voices building platforms, communities, and conversations around architecture and materials. Because every project exists within a bigger ecosystem, where ideas gain visibility. The MARCH Awards 2026 celebrate projects built with bio-based, circular, and local materials. Meet our Ecosystem Builders Jury: @olafgrawert , Co-founder & Managing Director at @houseeurope.eu @alabauth , Founder at @pfaallfoundation @theindoorsytype , Researcher at @healthymaterialslab @roelsmmarie , Co-founder & CEO at MARCH Submissions are now closed, but the competition is far from over. Next week, the People’s Choice Awards open. This is the time to vote for your favourite project. While the jury selects the winning projects throughout May, the public will also have its say in which projects deserve to be highlighted. Stay tuned to discover (and vote for) the projects shaping the future of architecture. → marchmaterials.com/competition-2026 With the support of: @hessler.kalk and @hanfstein.eu

What makes a project stand out? At the MARCH Awards, projects are evaluated through two essential pillars: design and materials. Because good architecture is about good design, but also about how materials are used to shape better buildings. Here’s what we look at: — Architectural design — Material innovation — Low-carbon vs. conventional materials — Sustainability approach of the project Design, materials, and their sustainability are carefully evaluated by our jury of experts, selected for their deep knowledge in both design and material strategy. Projects combining conventional and sustainable materials are absolutely welcome. — Have your project seen and evaluated by leading voices in architecture and material innovation, including: @jade_slowstudio from Slow Studio, @marthallewis from Henning Larsen, @michela.quadrelli from Christoph Hesse Architects, @olafgrawert from HouseEurope!, @alabauth from PFAALL Magazine & more. — You don’t need a perfect project. You need willingness to build better. Submit before April 7. → marchmaterials.com/competition-2026 — Project images: Barretts Grove | @groupwork_arch Office in a Barn | @steinbachschimmelarchitekten Bienenskulptur | @barbara.schnetzler The Paper Garden | @jankatteinarch Multidisciplinary Health Center and Pharmacy | @mil_lieux_architecture UDO | @belwerk.kollektiv

Inhabiting the Ruins_Research, ongoing. Client Information Office. Governmental. The institutionalization of contemporary reality, including architectural thought and criticism, operates as a globalizing and standardizing force that limits independent thinking and reduces possible scenarios to a single (though seemingly diverse) linear narrative. Behind these institutions, ideas acquire a fictional, convenient framework that reassures individuals of the validity of their choices. The difficulty lies in finding alternative paths and in choosing to follow them despite their uncertain outcomes. Main image © unknown

Inhabiting the ruins_Research, ongoing. The romanticisation of ruins, or undesired architectures, emerges when decay becomes embedded in the cultural landscape of a city. Once these structures are absorbed into collective memory, their reinterpretation by new generations is inevitable. Spaces are rediscovered through corridors, galleries, and secured pathways that frame decadence as a touristic highlight. Though the failure or obsolescence of such constructions is evident, their excess and entropy acquire new symbolic value. Decadence becomes a condition through which architecture insists on meaning, even after its original purpose has dissolved. Main image © Photograph by Toni Wallachy, National Geographic Your Shot

Inhabiting the ruins_Research, ongoing. What is the role of architecture in transforming societies when the most basic needs of their people are not covered? What type of architecture should be developed in order to be site-specific and relevant in contexts where society is unable to enjoy or fulfill even its most basic needs? The first image shows the city of Havana, where inhabitants are forced to live within the ruins of a city that is constantly falling apart. While this reality is local, it speaks to a broader problematic involving housing, society, basic rights, and humanity.
