Listening to my Halloween 2020 recording of blues songs about death feels sublime.
The idea came to me on my birthday, sparked by Elisa Winter’s (
@_elisawinter_ ) encouragement. Four weeks later on 10/31/20, we recorded it in the middle of the pandemic
My biggest thanks goes to Elisa, whose affirmation helped me take this from a passing thought to a professional recording in five weeks
Half a decade later, I’m grateful not only for her encouragement but also for her backyard and its crackling, fittingly spooky fire pit
To Tim Korn
@juiceisgoood of
@dungeonbeach and Brett Van Deusen
@angryastronaut : thank you for taking my whimsical idea seriously and bringing your sound engineering expertise
I deeply appreciate the other talented musicians who joined me on this recording: Kat Redlus
@katredlus on harp, Lukas Papenfusscline
@leiken666 on vocal harmonies, Jeremy Stoddard Carrol
@jsc._.nyc on slide guitar, and Lily Desmond
@lilygoddamndesmond on violin, looper, and vocal arrangement
I have endless gratitude for every contribution to this recording, far beyond what I’m expressing here. ♥️ I imagine none of you expected to be tagged in this post today. In my opinion that’s one of life’s delights: you never know how impactful you are until you hear it reflected back to you
So I’m doing my part in expressing my gratitude for contributions I take personally
I’ll leave you with a song from
@lilygoddamndesmond that was on heavy rotation while I pulled this collaboration together. But shoot me a message if you’re curious to hear the immersive audio Halloween EP, or the full Halloween 2020 playlist that inspired it!
