Lovely setup we had a few weeks ago for a McDonalds commercial in Croydon. Nifty HR28 rigged with 8x8 soft-box Nifty HR28 rigged with unslung beam for movers It’s not everyday you have a soft box rigged to a cherry picker these days. given past events we avoid where possible. (If you know, you know) in the space we had, there was no room for a 360 manitou to manoeuvre, so we went with a small soft-box on a cherry picker. Given the right set of control measures are implemented, I think it’s still very safe to do so. 1 - it’s written in the RAMS, that under a certain wind speed the box is lowered and de sheeted immediately. 2 - Production, DOP and gaffer are all aware that in the event of high winds or gusts that this could happen, so it’s not a surprise if it does so in the middle of the shoot. (Daily forecast checked during planning) 3 - A live reading anemometer is placed on the machine to monitor the wind speed In real time, monitored by the standby rigger. Saftey of the cast and crew is always a number 1 priority! Gaffer - @vini.curtis Riggers - @scott_stephens73 #filmlighting #filmproduction #riggers #rigging #commercialshoot

Sometimes a good snatch rig is all you need! We were given the task of replicating a buffalo ramming the side of a Range Rover for ā€œkraven the hunterā€ We had to have somthing as reference for the buffalo so we got the workshop to make up a frame, and rigged it on runners, with a car tyre at the end so we could actually impact the side door. We then had the trigger for the snatch rig on the runners, so that the snatch rig would fire, when the car tyre impacted the door. The real car door was replaced with a soft one, so it looked like it took an impact. Made by @schoony77 We then welded a few tyre ramps on a steel road plate in line with the wheels to give some extra movement to the car as it was dragged overt them. The snatch rig was set on a 2.1 compound on a relatively low pressure. As you can see from the stunt guys inside, we ramped the pressure right up on the actual shoot day šŸ˜‚! Along with the SFX floor crew adding some flying glass, I think it sold it really well. When Dominic Torertto lands his charger, sometimes he needs a bit of help….. another great gag we do up in Turin, north Italy, for fast and furious X. The was to simulate the landing of a big dom toretto jump. First we simulated this at our test ground. We had two containers stacked up to replicate the wall we were going to use on location, and we had our high line between two cranes. Our car was hanging from a skate, one side on the reset winch, and one side attached to our snatch rig. Above the car we had a pyro cable cutter, which does exactly what it says ion the tin, cuts the cable and releases the car. We angled highlife to correct angle on location and tried to get as close to real as life as possible, including planned crane positions. We then pull the Car up the high-line using the reset winch, which has a release also. Once ready to go, we blow of the snatch rig at the some time as releasing the winch. The car flies down the high-line on the skate. When then have the cable cutter on a Manuel button, and when car reaches the correct point we blow off the cable cutter and call falls to ground. Tricky gag to get right, but worked really well on camera on the day. Lovely little rig we did for a promo of the recent ā€œI’m a celebrity get me out hereā€ at black island studios. Rigging from us - - Translight at the back - beams on tackles for space lights - teasers on beams and ropes Nice little job. A volume stage build we did for the last season of Gangs Of London. We completed weight loading calculations for the roof, and an automation kinesys system was selected using variable speed hoists, this was for a few reasons. Firstly was because the roof piece had to move in and out throughout the shoot for various setups, and we could be mm accurate with pre programmed moves. Secondly ensure the roof piece stayed level throughout the shoot, and weights on each hoist could be monitored. And lastly, we were close to maximum loading of the roof, and with automation hoists we can set acceleration and deceleration on each move to minimise shock load to the roof. As well as roof calculations, we provided CAD drawings for planning and pre production using Vectorworks. We’ve done a few of these now, so know what to expect, always a pleasure going to 80six studio. A little zero G rig we did for ā€œthe fantastic 4 : first stepsā€ This was used in the spaceship birthing scene with Vanessa Kirby. We had a seat moulded to Vanessa’s body shape, made by the wonderful @schoony77 , rigged to the end of a tube on a 4 way giro. We then had 4 separate even weights on a little counterweight system, which made manoeuvring in any direction easy for the operator. This was all rigged under the rostrum below the set. This was the test setup we built to rehearse with Vanessa and her stunt double. We built the birthing table between 2 steel decks, to mock the rostrum on set, to the exact height we had. This was also Kindly tested by our test man @gibbs8436 and operated by @scott_stephens73 Pedro pascal was then flown by Stunts’s on a wire rig above her, whilst she was in our rig. Moves on the day were more controlled, and slow to give the impression of floating in zero G. Worked really well on the day. Scotty ended up under the stage for 2 straight days in the dark operating the rig! šŸ˜‚ SFX supervisor - Alister Williams @phantasm_sfx Riggers - @scott_stephens73 Sfx Test man - @gibbs8436 SFX sticky - seat marker - @schoony77 #sfx #sfxrigging #spfx #filmrigging #filmproduction

A little BTS of the dreams commercial we did the rigging for back end of the year at Twickenham film studios. 36x24 softbox - we used Bolton as mini teasers to chop the softbox into 12x12 boxes. The sparks then had 12x12 egg crates rigged to the underside of each box below the diff. this allowed the gaffer to use each box individually should he need, or all as one. We then had various other rigging for lighting through the shoot, along with the in house video wall. A lovely shoot we did back end of last year at the amazing temple place. Filmed here many times over the years, such a beautiful building! Lovely little Rigging setup for some actor interviews. We rigged two large blackout tents, with fully boarded roofs, and working platforms inside for lighting, as well as a small bit of rigging inside. We had to get a pavement license for this job for the large tent roadside, so lucky we had plenty of time before hand to arrange. Dom’s Charger wheelie! So many great rigs from fast and furious X! this one was my favourite! When working in SFX, you get given an overview of a scene, and what action/effect is needed to be achieved. This was handed to the rigging team, so Me and @scott_stephens73 put our heads together and came up with this little beauty of a rig. We had a custom skate made by the workshop using some of our 9t pulleys, similar to a climbing rescue carriage system, but this had to be able to pick up a car safely. This was then rigged to a highline between 2 x 360 manitou’s. The basis was that of a simple X Y rig, except the car would be driven like normal by the driver, and the front end picked up by the wire system. This was operated by the tele ā€œin/outā€ of a tele handler, on a 3:1 compound system to lighten the load on the machine. On action the driver would floor it, at the same time we would operate the up, and this would give the action of a dom’s charger banging out a wheelie! It ended up working really well, as you can see here from the test videos. Here video was recorded by @scott_stephens73 , tele operated by @jdooley1990 and charger test driven by yours truly! šŸ˜Ž What a laugh we had on this job!
