It’s Aries season, baby. Fire fire everywhere. Cinematography has helped me discipline and direct my fire. I’m predominantly a scripted narrative cinematographer. I use visual and aesthetic tools to strengthen the emotional impact of important stories. I’m here in this career for 2 reasons, and I’m better for it. 1, for the love of this lifelong study of light and human behavior. 2, I need this outlet to contribute to the revolution.
In the next few weeks I’ll share some of my cinematographic study and practice. As filmmakers, we are world builders. We usher change. We enable audience members to feel a strong connection with experiences and identities beyond their own. We work in a very powerful medium that–when done well–can be close to consciousness itself. Let’s use our powers for good! Let’s respect our subjects, our collaborators, and the laborers who bring our stories to life.
