Alec Bang & The Cult Classics are leaving Salt Lake City and heading out on a Pacific Northwest tour.
Before they disappear into the highways, forests, dive bars, smoke, and strange little miracles of the road, we’re throwing one final backyard gathering to send them off properly. Percussionist in the band @dansindanimal has opened his magical backyard up.

Did you know the Hail Mary prayer is frequently linked to the yogic practice of Japa, or repetitive mantra meditation, and is often considered a perfect Western equivalent to the Gayatri Mantra or the Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya mantra due to its rhythmic structure and focus on divine grace?
In specialized yogic interpretations, particularly within Kriya Yoga, the Hail Mary is seen as a direct match for the invocation of the Divine Mother Shakti. This perspective maps the prayer’s phrases to specific yogic concepts.
Just as a mantra (like Om) utilizes vibrational sound to deliver the mind from distraction, the rhythmic recitation of the Hail Mary serves as an “instrument of thought” to settle the mind into a meditative state.
Practitioners often synchronize the prayer with the breath, inhaling on one half and exhaling on the other, mirroring the Pranayama techniques used in mantra yoga.
A specific Sanskrit chant often paired with devotion to Mary is: “Om Namo Deva Madha Maria Namah.” This chant is used by some practitioners to blend traditional yogic “Namah” (salutations) with the figure of the Divine Mother.
Catholic Rosary practice and yogic Mala (prayer beads) both utilize a string of 50 or 108 beads to track repetitions, focusing the mind through “one-pointedness” (Dharana).
“Full of Grace” matches the “field of infinite creation full of light.” ✨
“The Lord is with thee” corresponds to the light of pure consciousness shining upon that field. ✨
“Blessed art thou amongst women” reflects the yogic idea that all souls are “feminine” (receptive) in relation to the Divine light. ✨
