Installation of heart sculptures as part of @situation_leeds On display now at West Yorkshire playhouse, Newlyn Gallery. Hafifa Ahmed's artistic practice explores the intersection of Arabic calligraphy, Sculpture and Installation through Text, Memory and Narrative. Drawing on the spiritual and restorative power of sacred words, she uses Arabic calligraphy as a tool for healing, transforming language into meditative forms that process trauma and nurture resilience. The heart series of sculptures is an exploration of trauma and healing through the visual representation of the reparation of the wounded heart. Through immersive Installations and participatory projects, the practice creates space for reflection, connection and inter- generational dialogue. #sculpture #art #artist #griefjourney #trauma

✨ As part of Lens on Gaza, we’ve been working with artists to develop new work from our studios at Convention House, and we’re excited for everyone to see what they’ve been developing! Hafifa Ahmed, is an Arabic calligrapher, sculptor and installation artist whose practice moves between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art. Her work explores text, memory and narrative - transforming language into visual forms that reflect identity, culture and transmission across generations. Working across calligraphy, sculpture and installation, Hafifa gives physical presence to intangible experience: the weight of memory, the rhythm of spoken word, and the stories carried through language. Her practice often opens out into workshops and participatory projects, inviting others to reflect on their own relationships to language, migration and oral histories. Find out more about Lens on Gaza: The Sun and the Moon Still Rise via the link in our bio. Artworks will be available to buy at the exhibition, with all proceeds from the workshop will be donated to Fadi A. Thabet, to support his work with communities in Gaza. We've been having a fantastic time at our 'Women Make' sessions in Sherburn. Artists Hafifa Ahmed (@ahafifa ) and Sally Wright (@betweenmachineandsky ) have been sharing a range of create skills and techniques and learning loads from participants too. New members are always welcome to come along to connect, chat, meet new people, get creative, share skills - and food, if you like! Mondays, 5:30–7:30pm Old Girls’ School, Sherburn Free You can drop in, but signing up helps us plan for any needs you may have. We’re always happy to help! Let us know if you need help with travel costs, an interpreter, or anything else via the link in our bio. These workshops are for women aged 16+. If childcare is tricky, you’re very welcome to bring your children along with you. We just ask that they stay with you and remain your responsibility during the session. You’re welcome to bring something to keep them occupied. We’ll have a small selection of toys and craft materials available (but these may not suit all ages). You’ll also have the chance to display what you make at Now Then! Festival Sherburn on Sunday, 14 June 2026.
