Thank you to everyone that came through to our Schubas show with @mintfieldband last Friday! We had a lot of friends come thru which made the nightl extra special. We have a lot of pride in our Latino/e (+Ben) identity and how it informs our music, especially in the context of indie music and the current hostile political climate here. So opening for Mint Field, a well regarded shoegaze band from Mexico City, was pretty dope 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Shoutout to Mint Field for putting up with all our gear questions and signing a copy of vinyl for us! 🌌YA'LL REALLY SOLD OUT FREE MONDAY🌌 Monday was an amazing night with an unreal line-up, audiance, and venue. We never imagined we'd be headlining a sold out show at the @emptybottle . But, it was all possible thanks to @vatostristes , @fantasma.negra and everyone that came thru! Shoutout to Vatos Tristes! Everything you've heard is true. They masterfully commanded the stage, taking advantage of every single opportunity to take the room to 11 and make every single drop and moment hit that much harder. This is all done without comprising the musicality and ambition of the music - marrying heavier 90's alt rock compositions with dynamic change ups and instrumental passages (horns included) verging on post-rock, with the gnarliest of breakdowns included. Being in the audience was an experience, and they deserve the biggest stage you can give them. Fantasma Negra effortlessly carved a unique sound, wholley emboding a dark and sensual aesthetic, and putting all of us in their trance. Their songs weave 80's synth lines, driving drum samples and a lead guitar lines that teases us with whispers of metal, but stays within the the band's signature sound. The music can exist in both a nightclub and rock venue. And it's all tied together by their virtuosic lead singer and front woman, confidently commanding the stage, and consistently delivering every well written vocal hook. It was hard not to be impressed. Monday was a much needed celebration of Latino/e alt culture and language with everything our communities are going through. Ghost Days (@ghost.days ), a Chicago dream pop / shoegaze band, headlined our Valentine’s show at @theburlingtonbar and I got to photograph their set. 📸 Truly solid, kind people who put on a beautiful, immersive performance. Alessia’s voice is velvety soft but powerful in a way that fills the room without forcing it. It meant a lot for my band Plush Crush (@plushcrushband ), to share that stage. 🌹✨

I had my first girlfriend the summer before I started high school. I was 14 and about to be a freshman. She was heading into her senior year. I was not out to my mom. That got resolved for me when her brother outed us, her parents said they would rather find out their daughter was pregnant than dating me, and then showed up at my house to tell my mom, in person, to keep me away from their 18 year old daughter. They liked me even less once they found out I was Guatemalan. The relationship ended later for other reasons, but this memory came back because I went to The Alley before band practice the other week and I swear I saw her. I pretty much moonwalked out of the store. Honestly, it would be fitting. She was always a goth girly.

Spooky season has past but I saw some wolves yesterday at the zoo and it reminded me of my costume. So yeah. Okay bye. 🐺✨❤️
