Homegrain is a real life book! As the preface explains, with this book I want to share more about the amazing humans who comprise Washington’s local grain economy but without just publishing a list of places with generic summaries. This book is dedicated to the WSU Breadlab because they are the beating heart of our local grain economy, in Washington and beyond. The book will first be available for sale at The Buckwheat Festival this Friday 8/8, with details to buy them online coming after. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to the Breadlab, and further donations can be made anytime at their website.  A huge thank you to Andrew Barton of Two Plum Press, none of this would have been possible without his time and support. I have been a fan girl of Andrew’s ever since I first came across his book The Long Loaf in Book Larder, and I still can’t believe we took our internet friendship and turned it into a real-life “I believe in this thing you're doing” friendship. A huge thank you to Connie Millsaps for responding to my email and thinking this project was neat. I still can’t get over how special it feels to have her art included. Thanks for the honest dialogue that helped me conquer any imposter syndrome doubts that were haunting me. And I have to note that I miss Vif every day, the cafe that was my most favorite in Seattle and where Connie worked and she had the most beautiful wine descriptions. A huge thank you to all the survey contributors, it was very scary to ask folks already working so hard for their time. I think every other word in my email was “no worries if not”. Lucky for me, hard working and being kind are personality traits that tend to go hand in hand! And a final huge thank you to all the folks in my personal life who let me ping pong my scrambled egg thoughts off them.

BREAD FOLK ARE GOOD FOLK. We know dis. Quick visit to Thomas to talk all things mills, grains, flour, bread, life, hopes, dreams, etc. I like being in the presence of folks like Thomas, there's something about people who work with their hands. Vashon isn't that far, and if you venture over there, the @fernhornbakery buckwheat chocolate cookies are to die for. But you don't even have to die for them! You just have to get to Vashon! Also left with some Sonoran wheat and Purple barley flour 🌾💟 What to bake with it?!

There's beans AND greens under that fried egg, but I bet you already knew that. And despite the claims, salt water does not actually cure all because nothing does, but I bet you already knew that too. Maybe something you didn't know, though, is that @cafeloloseattle has an amazing larder full of their house-made pastas and sauces and things and if you haven't been yet, that's cuckoo bananas!!! And maybe you didn't know that those cookies are vegan and gluten free by looking at them, but I bet you did know they are chocolate❤️🩷🐸🐸.

Jet lag diaries: 1) Go to @booklarder and after much deliberation bring home these cookbooks to keep the good times rollin. 2) "What'd you bring back from Thailand?" God bless all international airports that sell Ovomaltine (not to be confused with Ovaltine). This should hold me over until @flochardon can replenish me. 3-6) Mementos added to journal. 7-8) Long loaf making it look easy. 9) My bones spoke and they said, we want a kale and bean enchilada bake and we want to see Erin and Harrison. Recipe from Tenderheart!

Part 3 of 4: humans. Because the whole impetus for this trip and going to Thailand was Grant and Kayleigh getting married!
